diy tattoo choker easy | Energy use linked to bad behavior in youth

,

diy tattoo choker easy

Youth consuming energy drinks were more likely to play video games for hours, drink sugar-sweetened beverages, and smoke, according to a new study published in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior.

Researchers for the study, published in the May/June issue of the academic journal, surveyed about 2,800 adolescents from grades 6 through 12 in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota region. The classroom survey
asked students about their sports drink and energy drink consumption, as well as other behaviors.

According to a LiveScience article, 38 percent of those surveyed said they consumed sports drinks at least once a week, while 15 percent said they consumed energy drinks at least once per week.

On average, teens who consumed sports drinks or energy drinks at least once per week played more hours of video games, drank more servings of sugar-sweetened beverages, and were more likely to have tried smoking, than those who consumed sports drinks or energy drinks less than once per week.

Boys who drank energy drinks at least once per week spent on average four more hours playing video games than boys who drank energy drinks less often. About 20 percent of boys and girls who consumed energy drinks frequently said they had smoked cigarettes, compared to eight percent of those who did not consume energy drinks as frequently.

Researchers write that the findings “are troubling because they may indicate a clustering of problem behaviors among some adolescents.”

But because the study was conducted all at once, there is no way to prove that consuming sports drinks and energy drinks caused these behaviors. Researchers cannot say which came first—the sports and energy drink consumption or the unhealthy behaviors.

“Based on this study, we can’t blame the sports and energy drinks at all,” Dr. Jason Block, an assistant professor of population medicine at Harvard Medical School who was not involved in the study, told LiveScience. “It’s just that adolescents who aren’t focused on healthy behaviors are more likely to consume these beverages.”

Researchers said that future studies that follow teens over time are needed to determine the reason for the link.

diy tattoo tights | Marijuana Use Down in American High Schoolers

,

diy tattoo tights

American high school students are using marijuana at a significantly lower rate than they were 15 years ago, according to a new study. This reduction is in spite of marijuana being more widely available as several states have legalized its use for medical purposes or decriminalized it.

However, marijuana use among teens is significantly greater than the use of other illegal drugs, with 40% of teens in 2013 saying they had ever smoked marijuana. In 2009, that number was 37%, but it is still better than the 47% recorded in 1999. By contrast, only 3% of teens said they had ever tried methamphetamines in 2013, down from 9% in 1999.

The study also found that the gender gap in marijuana use, where boys outnumbered girls as users of the drug, is shrinking. Males and females are now using marijuana at similar rates. White and black teens once used marijuana at similar rates, but now blacks report using it more often.

These findings were published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence. The study was conducted by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health led by Renee M. Johnson, PhD, MPH, an assistant professor in the Department of Mental Health.

Johnson and her colleagues examined data from the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey, a school-based survey of students in grades 9 through 12. The survey gathered information from more than 115,000 teens throughout the United States and has been conducted every 2 years since 1990by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since 1996, 34 states have passed laws lifting criminal sanctions of medical use of marijuana. Eleven states have passed laws decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana, adding to nine that passed such laws in the late 1970s. Four states have passed laws allowing for recreational use of marijuana by people over 21.

"People have been very quick to say that marijuana use is going up and up and up in this country, particularly now that marijuana has become more normalized," says Dr. Johnson in a statement. "What we are seeing is that since 1999 - 3 years after medical marijuana was first approved - the rates of marijuana use have actually fallen. But we will be watching those states where recreational marijuana use has been legalized to see if that leads to increased use among teens."

diy glitter tattoo stencils | Gangs use time in Jail as a school!

,

diy glitter tattoo stencils

For gang members, jail is a school, a place to learn gang history, politics and economics. But in this school, if they are disciplined, they graduate to a higher status among their peers.

In jail, young gang members also are educated in how to make weapons, what to expect if they are destined for prison and how to communicate with fellow gang members both within the same jail and in prisons around the state.

Jail is where many orders from so-called shot callers are carried out, like assaults or killings of rival gang members or members within the gang who have defected.

The Stanislaus County Jails majority gang, NorteƱo, is even referred to a
s the junior varsity of the Nuestra Familia, a prison gang with which it is associated.

While many members grow up in neighborhoods considered turf by gangs, it isnt until they go to jail that most choose a side — northerner or southerner — and truly become affiliated. Upon their release, the future crimes they commit are expected to be for the benefit of the gang.

diy tattoo gun making | Eating with your child prevents drug use!

,

diy tattoo gun making

VILLAS - Sharing a daily meal with your children can reduce the chances they will use drugs. Learn more by experiencing the “15 Minute Child Break.”

Inviting your child to dinner, in fact having just one meal a day with your child could decrease by two-thirds the likelihood your son or daughter will try marijuana. According to the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ) even having dessert with your child can decrease the chance the child will try drugs.

“It’s no secret that New Jersey is experiencing an epidemic of substance abuse,” said Lower Township Mayor Michael Beck. “Parents and grandparents are the first line of defense in protecting and grandchildren from this evil.”

Beck said parents had the choice of having an open and honest discussion with their child about drugs, giving them the armor to combat the temptation of substance abuse or there was a good chance their child would eventually be in the system.

“There are so many opportunities for a child to go the wrong way, you need to give them the information to make the right choice,” said the mayor.

Angelo Valente, executive director of PDFNJ, said the “15-Minute Child Break” stressed the importance of a parent or caregiver’s role on substance abuse prevention.

“This presentation is an opportunity for parents and caregivers to come out and find out the role they play and the power they have in preventing their children from abusing drugs and alcohol,” said Valente.

The program will also explain how to notice the signs of drug use, current terminology and trends of use. Participants receive age specific information and communication skills concerning substance abuse.

The PDFNJ offers a variety of free programs, services and materials. For additional information visit: www.drugfreenj.org.

diy tattoos tumblr | Teen use of Mobile Phones

,

diy tattoos tumblr

A recent PEW Research study stated that 88% of teens now have access to a mobile phone. Technology has become the "digital generations" lifeline to the world – to reaching their peers, family and even friend-enemies. Nearly all teens (92%) go online daily and 87% never allow their smart phone to leave their side, leaving parents struggling to keep up with the online monitoring of their child. In fact, 1 in 3 parents (33%) stated that they have had concerns or questions about their childs technology use in the past 12 months.

Digital technology and mobile usage is becoming ubiquitous among the digital generation.
Additional findings of the research state:
  • Teens send an average of 30 texts per day
  • Many teens reported sending as many as 34 texts each day AFTER bedtime
  • Over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online, and about the same number have engaged in cyber bullying.
  • 71% of teens use more than one social network site
  • 76% of teens use their smart phone camera to post on social media
  • "Theres a new digital layer of parenting, particularly as it relates to childrens online usage and social media activities. State laws are now enforcing fines and/or punishment to parents based on how their children behave on social media," said Susanne Horton, CEO of MamaBear. "Its not about Big Brother watching, rather we see MamaBear as a digital companion that is helping parents keep a digital eye on their children in an ever-changing digital world."

To help parents engage in a dialogue about digital activities with their child, An app called MamaBear has compiled the following tips to help parents start the school year off on a positive note when it comes to navigating their childs online, digital world:

  1. New Laws Put Parents on the Line – States are passing laws that make parents accountable for their childs social media activity. Its important that you are aware of your state laws and that the tough conversations between teens and parents are held. The I had no idea response will not fly and could land hefty fines and even jail time in some states.

  2. Privacy Security Protects Everyone – Keep your personal information hidden! Parents should sit down with their kids and review what should be seen and by whom. Ensure your teen is clear that under no circumstance should they provide their passwords to any friend, teacher or babysitter.

  3. Sharing Is Not Always Caring – When it comes to social media, less can be more! Teach your teen that if someone is asking for your information repeatedly, it should be a warning sign! Also, when sharing information or photos, encourage your teen to pause and ask – would you be OK wit your grandma seeing this photo or post? If not, then chances are they should refrain from posting.

  4. Lights Out, Phones Down – When your child was young, you looked to remove any distractions that would hinder them from falling soundly asleep. Instituting an updated family sleep policy of no phones in the bedroom once the child has "gone to bed" will help to mitigate any negative online activities and ensure a much sounder sleep, clearing any issues and bringing a different perspectives in the morning.

  5. Open Dialogue Brings Success for Everyone – Open communication is key to any relationship – and by open that means to put down the smart phone and have an actual conversation. With the rise in cyber bullying, its imperative that parents are aware of whats on their childs mind. If they feel weird or uncomfortable about something they saw or read online, they should feel comfortable coming to talk about it.

  6. Dont Be Afraid to Get Help – Parenting is hard and with the hours put at the office, monitoring the variety of teens social media profiles is a job in itself. Luckily, MamaBear, the mobile monitoring application can offer parents peace of mind when it comes to monitoring. MamaBear monitors social media, provides location-based alerts, text messaging and more!

diy tattoo fading | NIH also improves access for parents teachers and Spanish language readers

,

diy tattoo fading

Bethesda, Maryland--(ENEWSPF)--October 21, 2013.  Teens — and adults who care for them — can now find answers to questions about drug abuse and addiction more easily, and through smartphones and tablets. Spanish language versions of easy to understand resources on drug abuse and addiction are now also available. The updates, announced today by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), part of the National Institutes of Health, are being launched as part of National Substance Abuse Prevention Month  events in October.

For teens, their parents and teachers, NIDA has upgraded its popular teen website to a “responsive design” model that automatically adjusts to fit the viewer’s screen for better viewing through smartphones and tablets.
The new design is also more engaging, with larger, more vibrant buttons that link directly to resources that provide answers to questions and concerns related to drug abuse in adolescents. The teen site continues to house free, interactive resources such as its teen blog and PEERx, an online educational initiative to discourage abuse of prescription drugs among teens.

In addition to the redesigned teen site, NIDA’s improved Parents and Educators page makes it easier for caregivers and teachers to find free, scientifically based prevention and education resources. Examples include Family Checkup — a tool for talking with children about drugs — as well as the latest science-based information on the health effects and consequences of drug abuse. Teachers can also find free resources for elementary, middle and high school students, including examples of classroom-based science experiments from the NIH Lab Challenge.

To reach adults with limited literacy skills, NIDA’s Easy-to-Read website now includes Spanish-language versions of its Drug Facts pages; its What is Addiction? section; as well as two easy to understand videos explaining the science behind drug addiction.

In October, parents, youth, schools, businesses and community leaders across the country join together in recognizing the role that substance abuse prevention plays in promoting safe and healthy communities. National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, which began in 2011, is organized by the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP).

“By using improved Web and handheld device strategies to distribute research findings, we can reach a broader audience,” said NIDA Director Dr. Nora D. Volkow. “NIDA is launching these tools during National Substance Abuse Prevention Month and will continue to translate the science to guide effective prevention and education efforts in homes and communities.”

diy locker tattoo locker apk | Teen Social Media Use

,

diy locker tattoo locker apk

The Pew Research Center conducted a study, "Teens, Social Media & Technology Overview 2015: Smartphones facilitate shifts in communication landscape for teens.", byAmanda Lenhart, April 2015.

The study discovered a shift in the way teens access the internet and how they do it. The key findings highlighted the shift in access to the internet. Where teens primarily access the internet from computers at home, via laptops or desktops, the shift now has moved to mobile.

Key Findings:
  • 24% of teens go online "almost constantly" via smartphones
  • 92% of teens report going online daily
  • 56% of teens go online several times a day
  • 12% of teens go online once a-day.
According to the report, what is fueling this access is facilitated by mobile devices. The report indicates that nearly three-quarters of teens have or have access to a smartphone and 30% have a basic phone, while 12%of teens 12-17 say they have no cell phone of any type.

Who has access to the internet via a smartphone is also revealing and may indicate a potential shift in how prevention messages are crafted when it comes to internet safety for teens.
  • 85% of African American teens have access to smart phone.
  • 71% of White and Hispanic teens have access to a smartphone.
91% of all teens go online from mobile devices at least occasionally. Among the teens defined as "Mobile Teens", 94% go online daily or more often.  In comparison, teens who do not access the internet via mobile devices tend to go online less frequently, 68% go online at least daily.

Hispanic and African American youth reported more frequent internet use than white teens. African Americans teens, went online 34% of the time, "almost constantly." Hispanic teens are online 32%, "almost constantly", while only 19% of white teens go online often.

What sites they are accessing most frequently has began to show a trend. Facebook remains the dominant force in teens social media access, as the increase to Instagram and Snapchat as more prominent in teens.  Teens relate they access the following platforms the most often
  • Facebook, 41%
  • Instagram, 20%
  • Snapchat, 11%
  • Twitter, 6%
  • Google+, 5%
  • Tumbler, 3%
  • Vine, 1%
  • Other, 1%
Socio-economic status also appears to play a roll in who and what sites teens access. Teens from less well-off households, earning less than $50,000 are more likely than others to say they use Facebook, where some 49%say they use it most often. In comparison, 37% of teens from somewhat wealthier families, those earning $50,000 or more.

As teens have adopted smartphones, the variety of communication methods and sharing they use has increased as well. Texting is an especially important method of communication for teens. Some 88% of teens have or have access to cellphones or smartphones and 90% of those teens with phones exchange texts. A typical teen sends and receives some 30 texts per day.

The entire report can be viewed here.

diy tattoo chair | Hookah use on the rise among teens and young adults!

,

diy tattoo chair

Hookah use is increasing dramatically among U.S. teens, according to a new study in "Pediatrics," published online Monday and in the August issue.

The study, "Hookah Use Among U.S. High School Seniors," found the annual prevalence of hookah use was 18 percent, based on a national survey of 5,540 high school seniors.

"Hookah use is not less harmful or addictive than cigarettes," said Joseph Palamar, the lead author and assistant professor of population health at New York University.

"There is a common misperception that the water in hookah filters out the bad things, like nicotine ... but that simply isnt true," he said this morning.

Students who smoked cigarettes, and those who had ever used alcohol, marijuana or other illicit substances, were more likely to use the hookah. Unexpectedly, researchers also found that students whose parents had higher levels of education, and those with higher incomes, were more likely to use hookah — unlike cigarette smoking, which is associated with lower socioeconomic status.

"Hookah use isnt frowned upon as much, especially by the upper class because use doesnt have the typical smoking stigma," Palamar said. "Its also trendy to use at hookah bars."

In Chicago, there are about 40 lounges scattered throughout Chicago and the suburbs, according to hookahchicago.com, a website that rates the offerings on tobacco flavor, price and ambience. In the suburbs, northwest suburban Schaumburg is the leading hookah hotbed, with seven lounges.

One reason for the popularity: They are among the few public places where people can still smoke since the Smoke Free Illinois Act became law in 2008. The legal age in Illinois to use a hookah is 18.

If there is any silver lining to the upsurge, its that hookah tends to be a once-in-a-while habit, unlike cigarettes.

Still, researchers concluded it is crucial for public health officials to fill in the gaps in public understanding about the harm of hookah smoking.

"Users ... need to be educated about the potential adverse effects," said Palamar. In light of this latest findings, he added "please use sparingly."

"If you run in the wrong crowd, statistically you will get in trouble!"

Andrew Papachristos has authored a study identifying risk to victimization and the connection to social networks which has two companion studies re-iterating his results. The study published in Chicago Magazine identifies specific factors for homicide victims, there social relationships and those inside of the relationships as it relates potentially becoming a victim.

The use of graphical data is amazing and poignant as it relates to victimization. Please take time to read the story and perhaps the subsequent research.

diy tattoo booth | Common sense approach to social media use by police and fire personnel

,

diy tattoo booth

An article from Police One magazine reiterates the importance of understanding your rights.

Sexy cops vs. firefighters: Double standards and the law

Earlier this month, some police officers made headline news for being ‘too sexy’ for their uniforms. Female officers across the country had been posting provocative photos of themselves in plainclothes alongside photos of their uniformed selves to an Instagram account called Blueline Beauties. There was allegedly also a Blueline Beefcakes account featuring male officers.
The photos wouldn’t get an average person kicked off Instagram. But NYPD officers were being investigated and possibly disciplined based on a department policy that prohibits officers from posting pictures of themselves in uniform on social media sites unless at official ceremonies.
These officers would’ve made news even without the NYPD policy. All it would’ve taken is one disgruntled citizen. No police officer is considered by the public or media as “an average person.” If you haven’t figured this out, don’t go into investigations.

diy tattoo footswitch | Most Gang Members Use Social Media

,

diy tattoo footswitch

"Activities online are sparking violence offline," said David Pyrooz, the co-author of a study of Internet gang activity published earlier this year. "Thats when it gets real serious."
Some gang members are using online tools to plan crimes, recruit members or challenge and threaten rivals, said Bruce Ferrell, the president of the Nebraska-based Midwest Gang Investigators Association. Many of those kinds of back-and-forth
"dissing" between rival gang members come in the form of rap lyrics that are recorded and posted online, he said.
One such online rap war had a deadly effect in Chicago last fall after someone shot and killed gang-affiliated rapper Joseph Coleman. That prompted several retaliatory killings, police in the city said.
Much of the threatening and harassing words that gang members spew toward one another online may seem trivial, but it can "spark an all-out gang war," said Pyrooz, an assistant professor at Sam Houston State University in Texas.
"What the Internet does is what word of mouth used to do," he said. "It provides them with a wide platform to promote their reputations."
And it is happening in Kansas City, where law enforcement officials have estimated that 2,500 to 3,500 people have been involved in gang activity in recent years.
"They are real savvy with social media," said Ron Hunt, a Kansas City community activist who works with young people seeking to get out of the gang lifestyle.
The study of online gang activity was conducted in five large cities, including St. Louis but not Kansas City. Researchers interviewed nearly 600 people, about two-thirds whom were active or former gang members, Pyrooz said.
Gang members use social media at about an 80 percent rate, which is consistent with the general population, he said.
But gang members engage in "criminal and deviate" behavior online at a higher rate than other people, the study found. Besides the threatening and harassing behavior, the gang members are more likely to do such things as illegally download files, arrange drug sales, sell stolen goods or post and watch videos of street fights.
Nearly 20 percent of the participants in the study said their gangs had their own
websites or social media pages. About one-third of those said the pages were password-protected.
One thing that struck Pyrooz was how technically savvy young gang members were. The "digital divide" that once separated residents of large urban areas from those in more affluent communities has disappeared as a result of handheld technology, he said.
On the streets, gang members go online to monitor the movements of police officers and warn one another or give an "all clear" when officers depart, said Ferrell of the gang investigators association.
Ferrell said one social media phenomenon occurring on the West Coast is "flocking." It is a type of flash mob in which gang members text one another to show up all at once at a specific place to commit a crime. It can involve breaking into a home or stealing from a business.
Officer Steve Edwards of the Overland Park Police Department said gang members have a propensity to post pictures of themselves and their friends online. Sometimes they are pictured holding guns, money or drugs.
"That can help us locate where they are and who they are hanging out with," he said.
With the wide use of social media today, it is imperative that police agencies learn how to employ it effectively, said Lauri Stevens of LAwS Communications, which trains law enforcement officers to effectively use social media.
Beyond using social media to track gang members and their criminal activity, police also must learn how to gather evidence so it can be used to successfully prosecute the criminals, she said.
Stevens said there has been very little legal precedent in that area, particularly when it comes to cell phones and other hand-held devices.
State courts have split on whether police can obtain evidence from cellphones without search warrants.
Lawyers for a California man who was linked to a gang-related shooting by photos police obtained from his cellphone have petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court for a hearing on the issue.
This article originally appeared in The Kansas City Star.

diy henna tattoo kool aid | Drug Rehab Clinic have seen uptick in Molly Use

,

diy henna tattoo kool aid

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A drug known for its popularity in the club scene and among young adults is gaining attention following a major drug sting at a local Florida nightclub. Molly, also known as MDMA or ecstasy, experts say is an unregulated drug that is often laced with other drugs.
"Any drug you take youre not used to - if its not prescribed, you can die from it," said Danny Smith. He works in the detox unit at Gateway Community Services, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation agency in Jacksonville.
Hes seen patients at their lowest points: strung out on all types of drugs and alcohol.
"They think theyre Superman - the king of the world, and all of a sudden theyre down real quick," said Smith.
He says thats one of the feelings associated with Molly, which is a club drug stimulated by sound, smell and touch. It can make someone feel relaxed and unafraid then lead to hallucinations and hyperthermia.
"You never know, and then you have these kids that die," said Karen Tozzi, who serves as the VP of Development at GCS. "You dont know what youre going to get. You dont know how much youre going to get. You dont know whats in it."
She said in the early 2000s, GCS developed an ecstasy prevention project. "There was a huge increase in the use of ecstasy and club drugs," said Tozzi. After a three year run, she remembers the use of ecstasy and club drugs dropping dramatically in the River City.
But in the last six months, their adolescent department has seen an up-tick in patients treated who have a history of using molly.
"Now it seems like were going to need to dig up some of the old stuff and get with some more kids and make sure its still relevant and do more prevention efforts for Molly and ecstasy, " said Tozzi.

The number of emergency department visits involving the drug ecstasy more than doubled from 2005 to 2011, according to data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Over the 6-year window, young adults and adolescents presenting at emergency departments after using website.
3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine -- known as MDMA, ecstasy in pill form, and Molly in powder form -- rose from 4,460 admissions in 2005 to 10,176 in 2011, roughly a third of which also involved alcohol, the agency published on its

They cautioned that use of the drug -- which has stimulant and hallucinogenic properties -- in concert with alcohol can enhance its effects "and may increase risk of abuse."

A small study on heavy MDMA use has shown that use of roughly 40 pills a year was associated with hippocampal shrinkage, which may have adverse outcomes on memory.

MDMA has also been associated with elevated body temperatures, high blood pressure, heart failure, kidney failure, anxiety, and confusion. Heart rate and blood pressure effects are likely due to the drug triggering the release of norepinephrine.

"Ecstasy is a street drug that can include other substances that can render it even more potentially harmful," noted Peter Delany, PhD, Director of SAMHSAs Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality, in a statement.

Data from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has found ecstasy cut with methamphetamine, caffeine, dextromethorphan, ephedrine, and cocaine, which users may not be aware of at the time of use and may be consumed with other substances, such as alcohol.

Fatalities related to MDMA use made headlines in late August 2013, when two young adult attendees of the electronic music festival Electric Zoo in New York City, N.Y., died, one of whom suffered a massive seizure after ingesting a reported "six hits of Molly," according to the New York Post.

However, hundreds of thousands of people use the drug -- the NIDA data suggests around 450,000 U.S. citizens were current users of the drug in a 2004 survey -- but deaths directly related to use are uncommon. A BBC report on drug use found roughly 500,000 English citizens use MDMA annually, but use was associated with 27 deaths.
