Its my first time getting eyelash extensions. Ive never thought about it and Ive never even worn fake eyelashes other than the one time I went for a Sweet Sixteen make over where the make up artist applied the fake lashes for me. That dont count right?

Well Ive never worn any because I have naturally long lashes, though they could be thicker, but I guess that could be fixed with just 2 coats of mascara. My regime since 16 was to have curled & thick lashes everyday, I could forgo the eye liner BUT NOT the mascara. Lol. Guess the motivation came from the constant compliments about my "doll eyes".

I guess that when youre older, you get busier and less time to spend dolling up. These days I call myself "lazy" for not wanting to do my make up (in full), but if you look at it another way, its just that I come from home to work and home again, so why spend so much time in the morning putting on all that make up and removing that gunk in the evening when no one other than my few colleagues see me everyday. (Okay, Im just lazyyyyy)

In the last few years Ive been trying to do things to beautify myself to look "naturally" beautiful meaning not having to put on alot of make up to look good every day. So it was about a month before CNY 2014, I was planning where to go what to do what to wear kinda... I wanted to look good when I went to my guys place for the nights and wake up not needing to spend alot of time doing up my face, so thats when I decided to give eyelash extensions a shot.

I briefly remembered a friend of mine posting a shot of her permed eyelashes and she mentioned that they do extensions as well.... so I searched her FB page for that thread and got the name of the place and typed "Curvaceous Lash" on to the Google search engine.

To be honest I didnt know how eyelash extensions was done until the time I got it done, I was curious and started asking the beautician questions and continued my research at home after.

So this is how the extensions should go on - one extension to one strand of your own lashes

So do make sure you look for a good place to get your lashes done, you dont want to hurt your own lashes and end up having "botak" or bare eyelids...

The first thing I said when I was handed the mirror by Stella to look at the completed lashes was "So prettyyyyyyy".... Lol.. really, I said that smiling.. Verdict: I really loved it... :D

I went to do a touch up 1.5 weeks later just before CNY to make sure my lashes were full throughout the festive and this time I tried on the longer lash to have the more "dramatic" look.

Okay... Heres the thing. I have long lashes but not as full as I would like. The idea of eyelash extensions are to have individual extensions stuck onto your natural lashes. So if you have short but full lashes, you are able to attach more extensions unlike lesser lashes then youll be able to attach lesser extensions. But one more factor I learnt from Stella is that you could only have the longer extensions if you have longer lashes to support them. But I would think that ladies with short and full lashes are the best candidates to have extensions as youll have a very thick set of extensions even though using the natural length which I think is more than pretty enough. :)

Right now after 2 months, Im letting the extensions fall off naturally because I am trying out a new lash + brow serum. I want to have thicker lashes before I do anymore extensions. Well ultimately I WISH that I could have thicker and longer lashes that I wouldnt need any extensions at all.. Haha.....

Pros:

1. Instant beautiful lashes everyday everywhere
2. Save time on eye make up
3. Natural beautiful eyes/lashes
4. Good for people with short lashes cuz you cant just grow them!

Cons:

1. No application of mascara - cuz you wont be able to remove your make up, no rubbing you see....
2. Like I mentioned of no rubbing, you have to be careful otherwise you risk pulling out your natural lashes
3. Maintenance every month - additional costs
4. If you want to remove them - you can either go back to your beautician and pay to remove them, or wait for them to fall off (like me) one by one... But Id have to say, its quite a pain to wait... Cuz you have a few strands dangling and you cant do anything about them. Sometimes they itch because they poke your lids and other days you cant apply mascara. That kinda su*ks... :/

How it felt:

Pretty much nothing when blinking and while youre doing your usual daily stuff.. The only time youll feel it is during shower cuz you cant just rub water off your eyes or when you are using the towel to dry your eyes cuz you wiped too hard you can feel the extensions poking back at your lids. Other than that, I felt perfectly normal. :)

At the end of the day, it really depends on what you want. I know alot of girls who got the extensions and could never stop going back I guess simply bcuz they wanted to look this pretty all the time...

Oh by the way this isnt a paid ad. Im writing about C. Lash because its my only experience.
C. Lash is home based in the East side and Stella does the services. She is a really friendly lady who does not chatter too much so you can rest assure that you get a peaceful time. I fell asleep both sessions, lol..

Kids and Dogs Part of County’s Youth Education InitiativeBy Vy Townsend Malik

What does a compassionate, gentle, professional youth officer have in common with a slobbering, lumbering, disciplined bloodhound?

They bring J.K. H.O.P.E. – Just Kids Hands On Pet Education – to the youth of Van Zandt County.  The unique intervention program provides those ages 6-18 an opportunity to share respect, responsibility and care for animals through hands-on experiences.

Primary Prevention and Supervision Officer Venetia Stanley works at the county’s Youth Multi Service Center, taking her 120-pound, red bloodhound Big Mac to youth in the Juvenile Probation Department, to school groups and to the Canton Animal Shelter where she helps young people develop skills using the natural relationships and unique bonds that develop when kids become responsible for caring for animals.

School Programs
The J.K. H.O.P.E. Program works daily in the Canton Animal Shelter and on special occasions for Citizens League for Animal Welfare (C.L.A.W.) and the Humane Society, in adoption clinics and in small groups at schools.  She and Big Mac are weekly visitors at Grand Saline schools, and in the fall she hopes they will become regulars with the fifth-graders of Fruitvale Elementary School.  Stanley hopes to work also in the Canton school.

Big Mac shows off his obedience training and special tricks to students in a small group setting, they get to pet him and learn not to be afraid.  They also learn the safe way to approach a dog and ask their owner if they can pet it.

Stanley says one of the purposes of the program is to address the truancy problem by giving students an opportunity to be responsible for an animal.  “They gain self-esteem and learn responsibility.  If they like themselves because they are helping someone and if they know someone believes in them, they are more likely to stay in school,” Stanley said.

Stanley’s overall goal for the program is to help youth to develop a sense of responsibility – to animals, to other people and to themselves in completing tasks.  Through this creative approach the goal is to allow youth the opportunity to experience success and become more socially adjusted and productive members of the community.

“I want them to learn social skills and to learn to do something really well.  I try to make a difference in their lives by teaching them the satisfaction and joy of working with animals.”

Canton Shelter
During the summer from 9:00 AM until noon, Monday through Friday, kids in the program get to spend quality time at the Canton shelter being with animals.  The program pays the shelter for the “use” of their dogs.

Although the shelter is a “kill shelter” Stanley has seen very few animals that had to be put down.  People seem to come every day to find a new pet for their home.  And, Stanley admits she does take lots of kittens home to be her “barn cats.” “I want to give them at least a chance at a good life,” she says.

Kennels, which are immaculate, need cleaning every day.  The participants feed the dogs first and then take a break so the dogs can eat in a calm environment.  It is rare that the shelter has a dog that cannot be trusted to interact with the program participants.

Then the kids go to work – moving dogs from kennels that need cleaning to those already clean.  They remove the leftover food, and someone takes on the task of washing all the food dishes.  Others remove the waste on the kennel floors, wet the floors with hoses and scrub with detergent and a long-handled brush.

After rinsing the floor with the hose, the next step is to squeegee the floor to get rid of most of the water, and then use towels to dry it more so a dog will not slip and fall.

Once those tasks are done, the kids get leashes and take the animals outside in the enclosed yard for running and playing on agility equipment, teaching them tricks and being together in a social situation.

The kids work on obedience training with their animals, and Stanley reminds them that success comes in baby steps, and giving the dogs a soft “cheerleading praise.” After the outside time, the kids bring the dogs back in, put them in their individual kennel and usually sit down to pet and talk to their charges.

Building trust is a two-way process that can happen in such situations. The students learn the importance of responsible pet ownership and can feel good about having a part in getting a dog ready to be adopted.

Food, clean environment, exercise, disciplines and love . . . that is probably a winning combination not just for dogs but for humans as well.

It is three hours of hard work, but the rewards are great when a kid and a dog get to snuggle up together.

Stanley’s Mission
Stanley grew up in Houston and has lived in Wood County for 30 years.  Her husband Kevin is a paramedic, and they have three daughters, two grandsons and one granddaughter – and lots of animals.

Though her education was in journalism at San Jacinto Junior College and the University of Houston, she said, “I have always been around kids, and I want to make a difference in their lives.
“My parents were always there for us, their kids.  Even if both parents have to work, they still have a responsibility to build a family and to be a parent.

“I believe that a tired kid is a good kid, so I keep them busy.  Kids cannot handle a continuous lack of supervision, so I concentrate on being present with them, staying positive.  I remind myself that baby steps of responsibility and care aren’t only for gaining the trust of dogs but that approach also works for gaining the trust of kids and teaching them to be responsible.”

So many good character traits that parents want for their children are experienced and learned in the J.K. H.O.P.E. program – patience, compassion, motivation, problem-solving, self-discipline, nurturing and healthy grieving.  And much of it comes from loving a dog and being loved in return.

The recent events in Washington D.C. have now raised the question did Aaron Alexis suffer from PTSD and did that drive him towards this shooting?

In May 6, 2004, in Seattle Alexis was arrested for shooting out the tires of another mans vehicle in what he later described as "an anger-fueled blackout," according to the Seattle Police Department. Alexis did not appear to suffer from the typical symptoms of PTSD.

So what did clues about Alexis are available:

• Alexis reportedly heard voices, indicating paranoia,
• Alexis suffered from sleep disorders (#)
• His father said he had anger management issues
• He had several run ins with law enforcement, two for discharging firearms.
• Alexis had a history of playing video games, actually missed work because of it.
• Investigators later spoke with Alexis father, who told police that his son had anger management problems associated with post-traumatic stress disorder, which he suffered after working "as an active participant in rescue attempts" during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York, the report said. Although there is no concrete record Alexis did anything like that at all.(1)
• Alexis converted to Buddhism
• According to a former roommate, Alexis was "frustrated with life." and he was having a hard time getting on his feet. 
• Alexis was also very frustrated with his current employer, the contracted company for the Navy Shipyard. A dispute over pay from being aboard on behalf of the company.
• Another roommate, stated that Alexis was fascinated by guns, "He was ... knowledgeable with military rifles and handguns. At least he led us to believe he was. But nobody ever had the idea that he would use them in a derogatory way," he said. (2)

A fellow colleague Andy OHara a retired California Highway Patrol Officer and founder of Badge of Life wrote an article titled "Does PTSD cause Violence?"  In this article they sum up the effects of PTSD and discuss the cause of PTSD and how it manifests itself among our U.S.

Military.  Here is an excerpt from that article....

But what about the actual PTSD symptoms? What are they, and do they typically include violent behaviors, like murder?

 

Simply put, PTSD is “fear” based, not “aggression” based. The DSM-IV-R (Diagnostic Statistical Manual, Revised) is clear. In brief, the primary features of the this illness are:

•  flashbacks
• withdrawal
• numbing
• hyperarousal
• and isolation.

Violence is not included. In fact, not one single research study exists linking violent behavior with the diagnosis of PTSD. While, anger and agitation are common symptoms of PTSD, these feelings tend to be turned inward, contributing to making it the terribly painful disorder it is. Combined with depression, it is not unusual for the sufferer to become suicidal. But a diagnosis of PTSD, in itself, does not make a person violent towards others. Again, the concern should be more that they will be a

danger to themselves, not others. There is a possibility, of course, that unintentional harm could come to others as the result of a suicide attempt, not only by gunshot, but though an intentional automobile accident, jumping from a building, or any other number of self-destructive acts. John Violanti, Ph.D., in his book, “Police Suicide: Epidemic in Blue,” points out the interesting phenomenon of “suicide by suspect,” in which an officer consciously or unconsciously wishes to die and willfully involves himself in situations of extreme danger or confrontation with a criminal, thereby increasing the risk of death. Even so, in these situations the danger to others is indirect and unintentional.

 

The unfortunate result of this misinformation is that more and more cases are erroneously using the defense that PTSD is to blame for murders by veterans when, in fact, there were other emotional disorders and problems involved, including prior anger issues, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and substance abuse, that were more likely responsible for the individual’s violent behavior. Society already views the mentally ill as "dangerous"--we need to be very careful not to further stigmatize these people via this illness by suggesting that a violent/murderous potential exists or was the primary factor until everything has been examined.

In the article there is mention of other issues such as emotional disorders and problems involved with prior anger issues, which Aaron Alexis definitely displayed throughout his adult life. Other factors such as traumatic brain injury and substance abuse, are most often likely responsible for the violent behavior.

Periscope, a mobile app that allows users to live-broadcast video from anywhere in the world at any time, has been hailed by the technology and entertainment industries, citizen broadcasters and even politicians, now Law Enforcement is getting into the act.

What is Periscope?
The app, developed by two friends Kayvon Beykpour and Joseph Bernstein, and was purchased by Twitter in March of 2015 for $100 million . The duo  had the idea in 2013 when trying to decide whether they should visit Taksim Square in Istanbul after reports of riots. They wanted to be able to see what was going on in places in real time, through the eyes of people who were there. According to sources within the first ten days of the release of the iPhone launch the gained over a millions users. After the May release of the Android version, it gained millions more.

So what does it do?
Periscope allows uses to live-stream video from their mobile phones, and can be used in conjunction
with Twitter, enabling other users to see links tweeted in order to view live-streams.

Although it is not the only live-streaming app. Many early attempts have fallen by the wayside, and another similar service called Meerkat, was also launched earlier this year.  However Twitter cut off Meerkats access to its social media site, when it acquired Periscope.

Periscope offers  users the option to let anyone play back the video stream. Which has some tremendous opportunities for Law Enforcement, Emergency Management Agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations, for example:

  The case was a "perfect opportunity" to try out the new technology, NSW police director of public affairs Strath Gordon said.
  
  "What weve found is that people often engage with our social media pages when they feel they can contribute," Mr Gordon said, adding that police Facebook and Twitter pages tend to see a spike in followers when  prominent people go missing.
  
  "Periscope is just another way of widening that audience and giving people a chance to assist and keep up with the facts."

At a September 16 reunion at the Giddings State School, approximately 40 former Giddings youth returned to thank former and current staff who worked with them to turn their lives around and deliver a message of hope to current Giddings residents.  The reunion was an effort by Charleston White and the Hyped about HYPE (Helping Youth People Excel) Youth Outreach organization.

White was 14 when he and a group of teenagers were found responsible for the death of a man during a robbery.  He was committed to one of TJJD’s predecessor agency, the Texas Youth Commission, until his 21st birthday.  During that time, White admits that he was a difficult youth, often involved in disturbances and fights.  But he acknowledges that he was given a second chance during that time, and that the influences of the adults he interacted with daily while at Giddings was instrumental in his 180 degree turnaround.  White has since dedicated his activities to reaching out to other at-risk and incarcerated youth, encouraging them with his personal success story and the idea that it is never too late to turn your life around.

During the morning-long assembly in the Giddings gymnasium, these former youth, many of whom travelled from across Texas to be there, talked about their life-changing time at Giddings and how they were able to turn their lives around.  All speakers described familiar patterns in their lives leading up to their Giddings stay – neglected at home, a lack of empathy and respect, hanging out with the wrong crowds and an inability to connect with society.  Most acknowledged they were at Giddings for truly horrific crimes and were unable to fully grasp their true impact of their actions.  All cited their time at the Giddings campus and, more specifically the people who worked with them on a daily basis, as a pivotal period of their lives which enabled them to move forward, become mothers and fathers, and play productive roles in their communities.

The returnees also spoke directly to the staff and former staff that were assembled to hear them speak.  Nearly every speaker spoke of a specific staff member who stood with them during their incarceration, providing tough love, guidance and hope when those qualities were most needed.

Current Giddings youth also heard the HYPE message about the possibility of redemption and the importance of using their time in TJJD to develop the tools that will serve them when they return to their communities. 

“It’s not too late for you,” White said.  “No one is exempt from God’s love.”

Greetings;

 

I am very pleased and proud to introduce our “new and improved” Texas Juvenile Justice Today newsletter through this column. The former “Executive Director’s Report” focused exclusively on TJJD state operations. A number of people asked over the past few months whether the agency’s newsletter could become more reflective and more representative of who we are today – one agency administering one system. So, we have done away with the Executive Director’s Report format in favor of this Texas Juvenile Justice Today.  This is our first edition.

 

Through this newsletter, we hope to include stories, articles and features that will reflect a wide array of different programs, special events, staff profiles both from state operations and probation departments, community participation in programs, and operations both at the state and local levels.  Stories and profiles of the wonderful people who do this work that you may not hear about otherwise.   It’s an unfortunate fact of life that most of what we may hear about  going on “somewhere else” in our state is of a negative nature.  And sometimes it is.  But the fact is that the achievements, the creativity, the dedication and commitment reflected through the work of our collective employees doesn’t typically get the same level of attention.  So this is an effort, one effort, to communicate among ourselves about some of the interesting and noteworthy activities going on in state programs and in local probation departments around the state.

 

I hope you will find articles of interest in these pages. There are hundreds if not thousands of great stories out there.  Please keep sending them in.

If you’ve ever read one of these blog posts, you know I constantly and consistently mention wearing sunscreen. But I realize that there may be some misconceptions or confusion when it comes to the wealth of sun protection information out there.  Here is a little Q&A to enlighten you before getting out in the sun.

Sunscreen products can go all the way up to 100+, but an SPF 30 sunscreen blocks about 96 percent of UVB rays. Above an SPF 30 the product doesn’t block much more in the amount of UVB, and it doesn’t drastically extend the time you can be in the sun. For any increase in SPF, you may get a few extra minutes before your skin begins to redden.

2. What is a broad-spectrum sunscreen? Is it better than other types of sunscreen?
Broad-spectrum sunscreen protects against both UVA rays, which can prematurely age you, and UVB rays, which burn your skin. You want a product that will give you the most protection possible, and broad-spectrum is a great option for that.

3. Should I protect my hair?
Absolutely! The sun can damage any area of the skin, including you scalp. Plus, the sun can bleach and dry out your hair. Make sure to use at least an SPF 30 on the part in your hair or any other exposed area of your scalp. Also consider a moisturizing and protecting product on your tresses. Of course, you can always be ultra-fashionable and use a large hat to protect your locks and face.

4. What’s the right way to apply sunscreen?
Sunscreen should be applied about 30 minutes prior to sun exposure, and 1 ounce should be applied to each extremity. That’s 1 ounce for each arm, 1 ounce for each leg, 1 ounce for the front of your torso, 1 ounce for the back of your torso and 1 ounce for your face and neck area. Yep, that’s 7 to 8 ounces total, but you want to block the sun, not simply screen it.

5. How do I keep sunscreen out of my eyes?
The best solution is to use a physical barrier, like a hat, visor or sweatband. You can use a stick sunscreen, but studies have shown that they aren’t as effective as traditional sunscreen products.

6. How long does SPF last?
I’ll answer this as a two-part question. First, SPF should be applied at least every two hours  and more if you’re sweating a lot, swimming or doing any other activity that is rubbing off or wearing away at your sunscreen. As far as the actual breakdown of the product, sunscreen is effective for three years after its purchase date, but this is given that it’s stored at room temperature and not exposed to extreme heat, like in a hot car, which breaks down the product more quickly.

7. How should I apply sunscreen to my back?
If you don’t have someone you trust to apply sunscreen to your back, there are products available to help with applying lotions to the hard-to-reach areas of your back. You can use spray products, but studies have shown they aren’t as effective and you would also want to be careful about breathing those types of chemicals in to your lungs, as some have been shown to be carcinogenic.

8. Does sunscreen affect fish?
Unfortunately yes, some of the chemicals in sunscreens have been found to have an adverse affect on the environment. If this is a concern for you, there are plenty of physical barriers like clothing, hats and sunglasses that you could use to protect yourself and the environment.

9. Are there special sunscreens for people who suffer from rosacea?
People who suffer from rosacea can be susceptible to some of the chemicals in traditional sunscreens. If you find yourself in this scenario, try mineral sunscreens, fragrance-free sunscreens or sunscreens formulated for people with sensitive skin.

10. Should I wear SPF clothing? (UPF)
Sun-protective clothing is actually referred to as UPF, or ultraviolet protection factor. And of course you should use these! They protect better than regular clothing, and there’s no need to worry about reapplying your sunscreen on the covered parts of your body.

11. Can chemicals in sunscreen hurt me?
Yes, some chemicals in sunscreen can harm you, but you shouldn’t skip the sunscreen for fear of the chemicals. Studies have shown that oxybenzone and retinyl palmitate are chemicals you should avoid in sunscreen products. If you are concerned about or sensitive to certain chemicals, look for sunscreen without them, if possible, or consider physical barrier options like UPF clothing and products.

12. Are sport formulas really waterproof/long-lasting?
Not really. All sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours, and if you’re doing something that wears away at that sunscreen, it needs to be reapplied even more often.

13. Is sunscreen a “fountain of youth”?
In a way, yes; a recent study in Australia showed that people who used sunscreen consistently tended to age slower than those who didn’t. This is likely due to protection from the sun’s harmful rays, which can cause your skin to show signs of aging like wrinkles or sun spots.

14. How much sunscreen do I need to use?
You should apply 1 ounce to eachextremity; that’s 1 ounce for each arm, 1 ounce for each leg, 1 ounce for the front of your torso, 1 ounce for the back of your torso, and 1 ounce for your face and neck area. Yep, that’s 7 to 8 ounces total, but you want to block the sun, not simply screen it.

15. Do people with darker skin need to use sunscreen? If yes, should they use something different than lighter-skinned people?
Yes, people with darker skin don’t burn as easily, but they still sustain the same damage. They usually aren’t aware of the damage because of the lack of sunburn, though. People with darker skin should still use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, applied 30 minutes before sun exposure, and reapplied every two hours, with 1 ounce of product on each extremity.

16. Will sunscreen aggravate my acne?
Sunscreen can trigger acne, so use fragrance-free or oil-free options to avoid breakouts.

17. Will using sunscreen keep me from getting enough vitamin D?
Don’t skimp on sunscreen. Yes, sunscreen can inhibit vitamin D absorption, but most likely, you won’t wear it to the extent that you develop a vitamin D deficiency. If nothing else, you can take vitamin D supplements to correct this possible issue.

18. How often should I buy new sunscreen?
Sunscreen is good for three years unless it’s left out in the sun where the chemicals break down more quickly. Find a product you like and store it at room temperature.

19. Are spray sunscreens and stick sunscreens OK to use?
Studies have shown that these forms of sunscreens aren’t as effective as traditional sunscreen lotions. Also, the chemicals in spray sunscreens can be harmful if inhaled. I would recommend sticking to lotion-type sunscreen products.

20. How effective are sunscreen-insect repellent combos?
These combination products tend to be less effective than each product on their own. For maximum protection on all levels, apply sunscreen first, then apply bug repellent.

21. Is there a way to remove sunscreen?
Most sunscreens will wear away on their own over the course of the day, but if for some reason you feel like the product has left a residue behind, simply using water, soap and a little bit of elbow grease is best.

22. Can my diet help protect my skin from the sun?
There are studies that suggest beneficial chemicals in fruits and vegetables can provide added sun protection, but they do not replace sunscreen or physical sun barrier products.

The Texas Department of Agriculture Administrative Review of the TJJD National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs (NSLP/SBP) was completed in September 2015 and TJJD earned an excellent report.  There were no findings against the agency and the reviewer said TJJD would receive a certificate of excellence signed by the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture.

Last year, only 17 of approximately 500 contracting entities (CEs) reviewed in Texas received an excellent award.  The reviewer said that it is very rare for a residential child care institution to receive an excellent award due to the added challenges. The reviewer was very complimentary of the processes in place in Nutrition and Food Services.  She reported that the reviewers visiting the sites said that the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, that the food served looked very fresh, that there was a good variety of foods served, and that the breakfast and lunch meals met program requirements.

TJJD congratulates Treva Whitehead (Nutrition Services manager) and Lauren Baxter (Nutrition Specialist) for their diligent work. The agency also compliments the facility Nutrition and Food Service staff for their hard work and dedication.

The rest of the days spent in Taipei was rather relaxing. Some days were spent in the apartment resting & relaxing, other days I went out to walk around but mostly just nearby or to Ximending since Zhongxiao Dunhua station was just 5 stops away from Ximending station. Zhongxiao Donglu was near the area I lived, and it is kinda an equivalent to Singapores Orchard Road. If youre into themed cafes or just nice cosy cafes, theres a few in that district which you can visit while youre in the area.

Walked around and stumbled onto the steps of the popular Dazzling Cafe.. Didnt try it since I wasnt an avid fan of thick toasts. Well, at least now you know wheres one of their chain stores.

This building sits on the opposite side of the road to the area where I live. Most shops housed in this area are no stanger; from Uniqlo to Forever 21, Fossil and Adidas.. All in this same area. I personally went to their Forever 21 store, prices are pretty similar but their sale items are alot cheaper! It was near winter season then so most sale items were spring/summer clothing, great for our weather and priced for a steal. ; )

And this big building, is the one that houses Wish Clinic. Super easy to locate. Just look for this Korean fashion brand, SPAO... practically takes the entire space of level one. Surely not miss it!

Took my Mom to 2 themed cafes during this trip; Hello Kitty Sweets Cafe near Zhongxiao Fuxing station & Toilet Cafe which was located in Ximending. Prices of course compared to local food were expensive, but comparable to cafe prices in Singapore. Figured out what better way to spend time with my Mom having fun lunches and taking loads of Wefies together. Both cafes provided free wifi, which was great since we could post our pics while feasting.

My Aunt took my Mom & I to a Hong Kong cafe in Ximending one noon for lunch, the food was yummy and price was affordable. The HK cafe served roasted meat and noodles, as well as Dim Sum. Three of us had a very filling lunch for SGD$50. We ordered almost a total of 10 items for that price. But unfortunately I didnt get the address or photo of the shop, super satisfied after lunch I totally forgotten to take a snap shot. Alamak *slaps face*. Will share again if I find out later! Heres just a few pictures taken to let your eyes salivate. Haha.

This was a wrong order. My Aunt wanted a Bubble Milk Tea but she ordered a Bubble Milk Dessert instead. Turns out, this was one of my fav item ordered. Super yums! Its Milk Tea ice shavings on a bed of pudding, topped with a scoop of Milk Tea Ice Cream (which was super creamy in texture!!) and a pool of pearls. Must try!

Roasted Char Siew (Pork) & Roasted Chicken. Ive never been a big fan of Roasted Chicken but this simply took my taste buds away. The chicken meat was super tender it almost melted in my mouth. YUMS! : P

Taiwanese Braised Beef Noodles, my all-time Fav Taiwanese dish since I was a kid. They serve a good one here. Beef meat & tendons were really tender and juicy, soup was great even wo chilli (since I could not take spicy food). Def will go back for this again when I come back to Ximending!

And now it suddenly feels like im writing about food more than my surgery.. Hahaha.. Hey, its Taiwan and its all about food here!! Share with you guys one more thing, again about food.. Some days when I stayed in, I packed "Bian Dang" at this shop near my apartment. Its like our "Cai Fan" (aka Mixed Vegetable Rice) but in Taiwan they serve a wide variety of dishes compared to what we have here. Pictures to prove..!

Ladys Finger, Kelp, Pumpkin, Tomato Egg.. So simple yet super yum can!! If Im not wrong this cost NT$65, which is equivalent to SGD$3.. Cheap right?

For carb base, there were choices of white rice, brown rice, vermicelli, and noodles. I chose brown rice to try. The salmon was super deli! This set cost approx NT$110, which is equivalent to SGD$5... How not to love Taiwan?! Lol.

And whats a beverage not to miss when in Taiwan? Bubble Tea! On average a large cup cost NT$50, that is equivalent to SGD2+... Half the price of a large cup of Koi in Sg. Think Bubble Tea lovers will get sugar high from OD-ing on this sweet drink while on holiday. Haha.

And so that was my food diary for the trip.. So lets check out my post-op recovery process with these pics Ive taken along the way. 

IDK why my face was puffy. If anyone didnt know, would think I have done fat grafting on my face or something - which I did not lah. It might be water retention or something.

Stitches behind my ear; wound for the removal of ear cartilage for tiplasty. Stitches were removed on the 11th day post op back in Singapore because the wound was still a little raw so I waited out a few days before getting the stitches at an aesthetics clinic in SG.

So far its been a month post op and the recovery process has been fine, results seem satisfying and I cant wait to see the final results when the swelling is totally gone. My plastic surgery journey so far has brought me new experiences; good and bad.. well I would say the thing I disliked most was the recovery process, where the initial stages looking awkward with the swelling was most annoying but honestly I couldnt care less about anyone knowing since Ive already publicly shared on my blog. Think most people, esp first-timers, would hide at home and avoid seeing anyone until he/she has recovered and back looking normal. But for me I already am at the stage I would just walk around with my swollen lids, haha.. Other than this, I feel great already with my new features. I know as much as how weird it sounds, it makes me feel quite alive going through this process. Maybe the norm and the routine is so mundane I just give myself excuses to get plastic surgery done. Im not saying you should get PS done if you feel bored, just do it if it would make you happier. Choice is yours, dont listen to haters.
