You wouldn’t believe the bugs in here. It’s like a horror movie. I woke up with one right beside my head. Every day they’re on the walls. Whoever was in this cell before me has put his gang warfare manifesto all over the walls and ceiling. The prison has the sex offenders make our food, and that means they put stuff like bodily fluids in it.

There is an institutionalized Native American guy who does things that are ingrained in his head like getting up early and banging his cup on his sink and washing his undershorts and shirt every day, regardless if he wears them. He constantly puts down black people and tries to promote himself as an intelligent man, but his heart is limited to hate. I’m like, wow, this guy is a wannabe Ku Klux Klan member. He laughed about the crazy dude killing the nine people in the church in Charleston, South Carolina. Listening to him, I kept my mouth shut. I know that he’s been brainwashed by evil.

Now you remember that guy Beaver I was telling you about who raped the old man with mental illness? Well, he has done it again to a guy who is gay, but wasn’t willing to partake in sexual relations with him. He raped him. I still haven’t had a chance to get to Mr Beaver yet, but I am praying for him.

There are a few things that have happened. Number one: people here are getting drugs from the doctors and crushing them up and putting them in sodas, with which they are raping their cellmates. It’s happened in different pods. Man, what a place. I see these guys with fear and shame on all of their faces. Number two: people are trying to commit suicide because of this place. Several guys tried to hang themselves recently.

I get sentenced on March 20. This whole situation is a wake-up call for me to seriously stop making excuses for things that have happened in my life. I sat there in that courtroom and listen to those people talk about me, and at times it was surreal. Those people were empty and cold, but they are in public office for justice. They tried to convict an innocent man: me, but God is in control, and he said no. He touched the hearts of the jurors and he’s going to release me. I please ask all of the people at the T-Bone Appreciation Society to pray for my sentencing.

T-Bone was sentenced to 13 years today. The ruthless players in the Arizona justice system have made an example out of him for exercising his right to a trial. They don’t like to be made a fool of in court, which T-Bone managed to do by being found not guilty on all of his major charges. The justice system in Arizona is extremely racist, so even though T-Bone proved his innocence on the major charges, he was still hung out to dry.

It’s also a business thing. If T-Bone serves 10 years, the prison system will get $500,000 of taxpayers’ money to house him – that’s $50,000 a year. USA companies and politicians make big money locking people like T-Bone up. Not only that, but declassified CIA documentshave shown that the USA government was the biggest importer of the cocaine T-Bone got addicted to. The journalist who exposed this, Gary Webb, was killed. It’s all in the recent movie, Kill the Messenger. So the USA government profited from bringing the cocaine in and the USA corporations – who pay off the politicians – continue to profit from locking cocaine addicts like T-Bone up. The whole thing is a racket.

Here in supermax, some of the guards are decent people. They walk around with face shields because there are guys who throw human waste on them and each other, and some guys spit on them. This place is full of cell warriors, guys who talk and scream and yell at each other from their cells, which we are never allowed out of except to take showers.

There are times when the smells are nothing but human excrement from the open waste pond. It lasts for hours. The opposite of that stink is the smell of the officers food nuked in the microwave. Compared to the food they feed us, the smell of real food makes my mouth water and guys start asking the guards for some of whatever smells so good.

Cockroaches are everywhere. They come out night and day. They get into all of our stuff everything.

Supermax is tough, but Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s jail is a much bleaker place. I thought things would be smoother after the jail, but I ended up at Alhambra Unit – where Arizona Department of Corrections determine your custody level – in a cell with a crazy guy. He wouldn’t sit still or leave the guards alone, making comments about female officers. He was always yelling at people outside the cell, trying to make himself out to be tough, but it was all an act.

Some guys at Alhambra Unit were so scared senseless of prison and wanted to be protected that they said they were gay or started acting gay, so they wouldn’t go to the general population. There was so much fear and hate. People were lost in a sea of discouragement. There was nothing but sitting and waiting as we were being tested and watched.

Would you believe a guard read about me at Jon’s Jail Journal! The guard turned the other way while I dealt with the guys who were out to hurt me. I went right in and hit the smallest one with a right hand. His head hit the wall. Down he went. The others just stood there for a second and that was their mistake. On a mission for God and country, I laid into them as US Marine.

These other black punks came to the door and said, “Hey, man. It’s your pod now. It’s your pod.”

“Now hear this,” I said. “Attention on deck, you jokers. If the Army and Navy ever look on heaven’s scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines.”

Now they think I am going to run the place, but I am not going to lower myself to their standards. I am not a hero. Those men and women out there working and taking care of their families and serving God are the real heroes.

Each one teach one.

                The journey from free life into prison is one of great culture shock; the transition back out is equally disorienting.  To many ex-convicts, it is too much to handle, particularly when the reality sets in of just how difficult it can be to get a foothold back in society. 

                Hurdles abound:

                                (1) one cannot work without a Social Security card that takes two weeks to obtain. 

                                (2) From there, one must get either a State ID or Driver’s License in order to cash checks or open a bank account; at least two more weeks. 

                                (3) Then, to sign up for government assistance and medical care, you have to get a copy of your birth certificate; minimum of  $17.75 and at least two more weeks.

So that’s six weeks a person would have to somehow support themselves on the $100 that DOC garnishes from your account while you are inside. 

Not an easy proposition…

Thankfully my own experience has been far wide of the norm.  My family has been exceptionally supportive, and I was hired into a volunteer position three days after release.  So I personally am doing fine, but for the average fellow who has to stay in a halfway house and work under the table, the frustration could (and has) easily drive them back into crime just to get some money for daily needs. 

So as to why I am currently scrubbing toilets at the local church - it’s my job, and I enjoy it. J

There are many cell warriors in supermax. Because the cell doors are rarely opened, guys yell shit at each other, day and night. Cell warriors are possessed with a deep-seated evil or confusion. They love to say and do things like call another man the N-word and spit on him when he walks past, or even throw piss and crap on him. It can be dangerous because they aim for the crap and piss to get in your mouth and on your eyes. That’s why the guards walk around with face shields. They talk trash, saying anything they can think up that they hope will get under your skin. As well as the N-word they like to call black men “boy.”

Sleep is hard. It comes and goes, sometimes good and sometimes not. The guys over in pod 5 are really loud when the lights go out. They show no respect to the others in here at all.

The showers are too small for me.They stink and they are full of bugs and roaches. The guards make us clean our toilets with our hands without cleaners of any kind.

There is no sunshine or any fresh food at all. In My main problem is trying to eat right in here, but other than that I’m cool. I take it one day at a time.

Brother Shaun, I really appreciate the Christmas money you and your blog readers sent that is enabling me to eat. Thank you to everyone for their help and kindness. I know that it’s godsent.

A young white man in here was hungry. He didn’t have anything to eat, so he asked a black guy if he could clean his cell for something to eat. All hell broke loose. Some white gang members jumped the young guy. He’s walking around with black eyes, all because he tried to scrape some money together to get something to eat.

I gave him some food. He has people on the streets who will send him money. I hate that he got jumped because he had no food, and he wanted to clean a guy’s cell who is black. It is so sad.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio feeds the people here worse than they do at Gitmo, where they at least get fresh food three times a day. I’ve tried to figure out Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Does he get off on pain and suffering, causing people to fight for food and just being mean and nasty?

There has been fights all over the place, mostly over food or drug debts or a racial issue of some kind. In court, people are signing their lives away, just so they can get out of here and into the prison system.

A gang banger in here with me is making unnecessary noise, so I’ll talk to you later, if you know what I mean.
