Greetings;

 

I am very pleased and proud to introduce our “new and improved” Texas Juvenile Justice Today newsletter through this column. The former “Executive Director’s Report” focused exclusively on TJJD state operations. A number of people asked over the past few months whether the agency’s newsletter could become more reflective and more representative of who we are today – one agency administering one system. So, we have done away with the Executive Director’s Report format in favor of this Texas Juvenile Justice Today.  This is our first edition.

 

Through this newsletter, we hope to include stories, articles and features that will reflect a wide array of different programs, special events, staff profiles both from state operations and probation departments, community participation in programs, and operations both at the state and local levels.  Stories and profiles of the wonderful people who do this work that you may not hear about otherwise.   It’s an unfortunate fact of life that most of what we may hear about  going on “somewhere else” in our state is of a negative nature.  And sometimes it is.  But the fact is that the achievements, the creativity, the dedication and commitment reflected through the work of our collective employees doesn’t typically get the same level of attention.  So this is an effort, one effort, to communicate among ourselves about some of the interesting and noteworthy activities going on in state programs and in local probation departments around the state.

 

I hope you will find articles of interest in these pages. There are hundreds if not thousands of great stories out there.  Please keep sending them in.

 

And please let us know how we can continue to improve on Texas Juvenile Justice Today.???

I am an acne patient myself who suffered from acne for years that resulted in acne scarring. I was introduced to an esthetician who was able to help control my acne and changed my outlook on skin care forever and my desire to help others.

4. What are some of your goals in working in this field?

Getting men and women to understand that skin is an organ, the largest one for that matter, and  #1 defense against bacteria, viruses, as well as damage caused by UV rays, pollution, etc.

5. What do you like most about your job?

Being able to help someone correct the visible issues and concerns that reflect on someones self-esteem. Teaching men and women the importance of taking care of themselves and increasing their self-worth. At the end of the day, we are judged by our looks, we just wont admit it.

6. Tell us three things most people dont know about you.

Haha! There is a reason that people dont know that about me. Just kidding. I love history, volunteering and dog rescue.

7. What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

Acrylic painting, art, and spending time with my son. I have 2 boxer dogs that I spend lots of time with as well.

8. Where is the best place you traveled to and why?

Paris, France. My son and I climbed the first 115 meters of the Eiffel Tower by foot. We had to catch the lift to make it to the top. Being able to see Paris from the top of the tower with the most important person on this planet, to me, is a moment that I will always remember and cherish.

9. Whats your personal philosophy?

Fill your heart with love and your mind with positive thoughts. Treat others the way you want to be treated - with kindness, honesty, care and respect because what you put out in the universe will return back to you.

T-Bone is a massively-built spiritual ex-Marine, who uses fighting skills to stop prison rape. T-Bone’s latest letter:

I’ve been dealing with a guy who likes to rape old guys. His name is Beaver. I haven’t been able to get to him yet but I will. He took advantage of a guy who has a learning disability, and all the cops did was write him up with a disciplinary ticket and move the old man. But Beaver will slip and bam! I’ll be there.

A kid named Gordo (Fat Boy) got drunk and started yelling about “Fucking someone in the butt.” He gave his cellmate some pills and took advantage of him. As I write this, Gordo is banging on the wall of his cell, disrespecting everyone in here. His day is coming too.

There was hair and rocks in the slop tonight. The cops spat in one guy’s food. I won’t eat it until it changes.

Please ask all the people at the T-Bone Appreciation Society to pray for my sentencing hearing on March 6^th. Peace and God bless you.

T-Bones sentencing was postponed until March 20. T-Bone was cleared of all of his major charges last month. The one minor charge should only carry a small sentence and as T-Bone has already been held on remand for almost 3 years, we are hoping he will get released due to time served.
