homemade tattoo carbon paper | How To Age Like A Celebrity And Look 30 Forever

,

homemade tattoo carbon paper

There are some lucky people who never seem to face the ravages of time. Celebrities like Madonna, Tina Turner and Demi Moore are some examples, and despite being over 50, they manage look better than people 20 years their junior.

Christie-brinkley-aging-timeline-1
Christy Brinkley will celebrate her 58th birthday this year, but  her looks remain forever 30.

Aging is a process that is greatly affected by genes, environment, sleep habits and diet to name just a few factors, but since this is a cosmetic medicine blog, and my patients come to me to reverse the effects of time rather than prevent them, lets examine exactly how a face ages.

As the face ages, it undergoes significant and visibly identifiable changes

As the face ages, it undergoes significant and visibly identifiable changes. It begins with weathering of the skin, and changes to the texture, transluscence and variance in skin colour in the mid twenties. By the mid thirties, furrows and lines are visible in forehead and near the eyes. Loss of fat from the temples and upper cheeks may show by the age of forty, and the undereye area is one tell-tale sign of aging as the skin begins to sag and pouch. The neckline is also an age giveaway as it becomes loose and baggy during the fifties. By the sixties, the skin is noticeably lined and very loose and saggy as the cheek fat atrophies.

How to Turn Back The Clock

1. Loss of volume
Lipoatrophy, the loss of fat in the underlying facial structures means the facial skin begins to sag, the cheeks become sunken and gaunt, facial shadows become more pronounced and lips become flatter and thinner, jowls appear on the sides of the face, and the neckline is visibly looser.

The Fix: Thread lifting, fillers, Thermage

Thread lifting for jowls and sunken cheeks

Fillers for deep lines and for plumping cheeks, lips and sunken areas

Thermage for overall facial rejuvenation and collagen remodelling

2. Skin texture and pigmentation

Environmental effects such as sun exposure and air pollution, as well as hormonal changes and effects of diet all play a part in the appearance of the skin as we age. The skin also gets thinner and fine lines appear, while melanin deposits and surface damage all contribute to obscure the glow of healthy, young skin.

The Fix: Skin resurfacing

3. Wrinkles and lines

Wrinkles appear in forehead, eye, cheek and around the mouth, as a result of the loss of fat and also due to constant muscle movements.

The fix: Botulinum-A injections

There are many exciting techniques for holding back the ravages of time, and ensuring you look your best, even into your 50s and 60s. These treatments are best used in combination, for a natural look that is purely you, but just younger, brighter and refreshed, so you too, can look and feel like a star, no matter your age.

diy tattoo choker with charm | How to keep teens alcohol and drug free this summer!

,

diy tattoo choker with charm

Summertime is here – and so is the season when many teens with time on their hands turn to experimenting with alcohol and drugs. Rather than throw up your hands and say there’s nothing you can do, take a minute to reflect on just how important and influential parents’ roles are to their children.
In fact, you can make a difference. It all starts with having proactive strategies in place to ensure your teens learn to live by the family’s rules and moral values, to appreciate that there are healthier ways to enjoy their summer months, and that responsibility is something that needs to be practiced.
What can you do? What are some of the most important areas to focus on? Here are some suggestions.
Be Involved
Instead of just going off to work and reminding teens to “be good” or “stick around the house” or warning them not to stay out too late, the best way to be in the know about what your children are doing is to be involved in their daily lives.
This doesn’t mean that you have to take time off from work to watch over them like a hawk, but it does mean that you engage in ongoing conversation about their likes, their friends, new activities and interests, what’s bothering them, any peer pressure, struggles with skills or learning ability, and what they want to get out of summer.
The more you interact with your teens, the more natural and comfortable this way of communicating will feel. The overarching impression is that you care about your kids and want to do all that you can to ensure that their teen years are filled with beneficial opportunities to learn and grow, and to build their core sense of values and increase personal responsibility.
Naturally, this will require more effort on your part than you may have thought, especially if you are only now beginning to realize that you can’t just leave kids to grow up on their own. In a vacuum, there are all sorts of dangers and risks for teens. Without firm and loving guidance and a moral compass, teens will likely find themselves on the wrong side of decision-making at a critical time.
While this may be easy to recommend, how do you implement a strategy to be involved in your teens’ lives? You could try the following:
  • Ask about their plans for the summer.
  • Discuss as a family things to do together on the weekend or make plans for a family summer vacation.
  • Learn the names and background of all your teen’s friends.
  • Communicate with the parents of your teen’s friends and make sure they know your wishes about not allowing alcohol and drug use.
  • Set clear rules, including rules about alcohol and drug use. Enforce the rules you set.
  • Know where your children are, what they are doing, whom they are with, and whom they are friends with.
  • Research activities together that your teen can participate in – hopefully, pertaining to his or her interests, but also encouraging them to discover new ones.
  • Have family meals together – no eating on the run or skipping meals. Use this time to discuss what everyone did today and what plans are for tomorrow and later on in the week.
  • Keep a family calendar with important dates and activities clearly listed.
  • Check in during the day with your teen using social media, instant message, texting or a quick phone call. Maybe use this time to let your teen know you’ve found out some information regarding an upcoming trip or event, or saw a great outfit or a guitar on sale or something else that will spark your teen’s interest and excitement.
  • Make time for one-on-one talks with your teen about anything that seems to be bothering him or her – or gently try to determine what may be wrong, if you notice a difference in attitude, dress, manner of speech, appearance or disappearance of certain friends, and so on.
  • Create a pledge between yourself and your children that promises they will not drink alcoholand use drugs.
Be a Good Role Model
It goes without saying – but it needs to be repeated – that parents should show teens good behaviorby their own actions. This means that parents have to know that their teenage son and daughter will be watching how they behave when others are around at a party where alcohol is served, at a restaurant when the parents order wine or cocktails and then get in the car and drive, even casual comments made about alcohol or drug use shown in movies and on television.
If you don’t want your teens to believe you have a laissez-faire attitude about drinking and drug use, you need to demonstrate that you have the good sense not to drink to excess, to drink and then drive, to drink regularly, to pop pills for every little reason, to combine pills and alcohol, to relax and unwind with a joint, a beer and a pill of some sort.
Beyond not drinking and using drugs – unless the medication is prescribed for you by a doctor and taken only by you for the purposes prescribed – you also need to convey that drinking and drug use does not solve problems. Instead, it creates and exacerbates problems.
Does this mean a radical change in your lifestyle? Maybe, but wouldn’t that be for the better? If you are a concerned parent, paying attention to rampant drug and alcohol use in society and knowing that teens are naturally curious and want to experiment, maybe this is a small price to pay to ensure that your children have an opportunity to grow up safe, secure and able to make sound decisions.
The old way of thinking was that parents could help ensure their teens learned about responsible drinking by making sure the teens drank at home under parental supervision. Today, however, research has shown that this is a false and dangerous strategy. It only shows teens that drinking and drug use is permissible, not that it is dangerous.
Keep in mind that teens do not have a fully developed brain until they are in their 20s. Their ability to make sound decisions isn’t where it needs to be yet and they can and do engage in crazy and destructive behavior when under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Just because they may be drinking in front of you at home doesn’t make this pattern of behavior any safer or better for them.
If you have any doubt about the validity of the recommendation to not allow teens to drink at home, remember any adult or caregiver in your own life that you saw engage in inappropriate behavior while drinking or using drugs. Maybe it was an uncle that consistently got sloshed and stumbled out the door to drive, often winding up in fender-benders, getting arrested for DUI or got involved in fights, trouble with the law, missed work and so on. Maybe it was a parent or older brother that you saw drive while drunk or high. How much did this behavior influence your own beliefs about alcohol and drugs?
You are the most important influence on your growing teens. Consistent study findings have shown that teens consider their parents to be highly or somewhat influential in their lives. In other words, they do tend to listen to what parents tell them. The more often family rules and values are reiterated and adhered to, the more of an influence they tend to have on teens.
Being a positive role model to teens means that parents:
  • Stay away from alcohol in high-risk situations. For example, do not drive a vehicle after drinking.
  • Get help if you believe you (the parent) have an alcohol-related problem.
  • Do not give alcohol or drugs to your children. Convey in a clear and concise manner that alcohol and drugs in your home are off limits to them and their friends at all times.
Be Aware of Risk Factors
Being a responsible and loving parent also means that you take the time to familiarize yourself with risk factors that may propel your teen toward alcohol and drug use, including:
  • Any significant social transition, such as moving from middle school to high school and getting a driver’s license
  • Any family history of alcoholism or drug use
  • Depression and other serious emotional problems
  • A history of social and emotional difficulties
  • Any contact with peers involved in troubling or suspicious activities
According to the latest Monitoring the Future Study from the University of Michigan, underage drinking continues to be a pervasive problem among American youth. The study of 10th and 12thgraders found that:
  • Nearly half (44 percent) of teens have consumed alcohol within the last year, while more than one in four teens (26 percent) reports having been drunk in the last year.
  • More than a quarter (26 percent) of teens said they had consumed alcohol within the last month, while more than one in seven (15 percent) reported being drunk in the last 30 days.
  • One in seven teens (14 percent) said they have had five or more drinks (binge drinking) in a row within the last 14 days.
  • More than three-quarters of 10th graders (78 percent) say it is fairly or very easy to get alcohol if they want some and more than half of 8th graders report the same.
Work With Schools and the Community
Consistency of the message that alcohol and drugs are off-limits needs to be communicated. To ensure this happens, parents should work with their children’s schools, with other members in the community and the local government. Here are the goals, as recommended by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in What You Can Do to Prevent Your Child from Drinking Alcohol:
  • Schools and the community support as well as reward young people’s decision not to drink [and use drugs].
  • Schools and the community identify and intervene early with children involved in underage drinking [and drug use].
  • Make sure that rules about underage drinking [and drug use] are in place at home, in school, and in your community.
  • Ensure that agreements of acceptable behavior are established, well-known, and consistently applied.
  • No alcohol [or drugs] permitted at parties and social events at home or elsewhere where children are present.
Be Consistent and Loving, but Firm
Bottom line: it just isn’t possible for parents to be with their teens 24/7 to protect them from harm. But parents can and should do the best they can to prepare their teens to be able to handle pressure and temptations to use alcohol and drugs. It is a big part of parental responsibility. In fact, parents have the best chance of helping shape their teens’ attitudes and beliefs about alcohol and drugs by virtue of their own behavior.
Above all, be loving parents. Keep the lines of communication open and honest. You and your children are in this together. You also want the best for their future. Give them the solid foundation they need to grow up with self-confidence, to be able to face life’s challenges and stresses and opportunities – without turning to alcohol and drugs.
Keep conversations going from their early childhood through adolescence and the teen years.  Be consistent, stay on message, be loving, but firm, and always be there for your children.
It’s the best thing parents can do to keep teens away from alcohol and drugs – this summer and anytime of the year.

diy tattoo gun kit | Gang Summit How to stop the violence

,

diy tattoo gun kit

Chicago, Illinois – On July 26, 2013 hundreds gathered at Chicago State University after members of the Congressional Black Caucus called an "emergency" national summit on urban violence.
U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, a Chicago Democrat elected to office this year, that violence in her district, specifically a Fourth of July weekend during which 74 people were shot, was the tipping point that prompted the summit. Though murders and shootings are down this year compared to 2012 in Chicago, crime is still having a major impact on much of the city.

The summit came on the heels of a night in Chicago when six people were shot. Friday evening into

Saturday morning, at least another five people were wounded in shootings citywide.

Members of the Black Caucus -- also including Reps. Bobby Rush, Danny Davis and Maxine Waters -- were joined by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and a number of law enforcement experts, academics and members of the public at the event.
As we had posted earlier this year Representative Bobby Rush was playing the blame game as homicides began to rise. The very same elected officials and political pundits were present at this summit were highlighted  in our blog post on September 7th, 2012. In that post we compared their legislative activities and press releases to see what they were doing to impact or improve upon the crime in their home districts. Feel free to read the post to see how often they were not present to vote on legislative action or propose legislation that might have a chance of actually succeeding. The actual results might shock you.
Rep. Bobby Rush began by asking, “Where are the wise men and wise women?” Then he answered: “I believe a lot of them are gathered here today.” There may be hundreds of wise people present, but will those “wise people” be heard by those who need to listen?
"Weve asked the people who are gathering to come up with workable plans -- something that in the short term can show a difference," said Rep. Bobby Rush. Is that short term meaning to get past the summer into the next election cycle?
Representative Danny Davis who made statements at the summit how complex the issues are that face those communities, as a result there is not an easy solution. Representative Davis did state, to the Chicago Sun Times “It’s poverty, it’s school closings, its a lack of good education opportunities, it’s a lack of jobs and opportunity to work, it’s the need for parenting, it’s need to rebuild the infrastructure and so all of these things become a part of the comprehensiveness of violence."
Addressing the summit, Emanuel emphasized the city must continue to work to "make our streets safer so they  for the citys children to have a normal childhood , the Mayor called for "Common sense" gun laws are also needed, the mayor continued.

Some people at the summit remained skeptical of the members of Congress who convened the gathering. Activist Ezra McCann told ABC Chicago, "I cant say we need to just get rid of them, but we need to see something else different to work for our people.”  Mr. McCann may be right, the very elected officials who have been in office for years, have done little to impact the violence on the streets of the City of Chicago.

The gathering not only allowed concerned residents hear the politicians speak, but also offered them an opportunity to share their own ideas. It’s what the organizers wanted.
Among people in the crowd were the parents of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old Chicago girl murdered earlier this year, and the Rev. Michael Pfleger.  Pfleger brought with him a group of his church’s “Peacemakers,” including Charles Scott, 39, of Auburn Gresham.
Scott hoped officials really took in what was said to them by young community members.  “I think they really need to listen to a young person [who knows what’s going on] on the streets,” he said.
U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Cal.) urged the activists, ministers, politicians and others in the crowd to generate ideas.

“It is not about trying to press conference and having all off the answers in three minutes,” she said.  ”It is about the development of the plan that will come out of this and then let’s see how the Congressional Black Caucus, the White House, the Justice Department, the local mayors, the community activists all can play into the plan they develop.”

An assistant U.S. Attorney General was also among the speakers, but Waters reminded reporters that the Obama administration and the Democratic Party do not hold the keys to the U.S. House of Representatives or to spending priorities, as a result.  She placed the emphasis on the unorthodox, suggesting that negotiated “peace treaties“ between street gangs could help quell the violence.

One outside-the-box proposal came from veteran activist Wallace “Gator” Bradley, long known to be a conduit to imprisoned street gang leader Larry Hoover.  He suggested that a “delegation” be sent to Hoover that would include a prosecutor, a doctor, a UN Human Rights representative, the Rev. Al Sharpton and a cameraman, who would record Hoover holding his grandchildren and urging gangbangers to work with the community, stop the shooting and stand united in peace.

Is this a ploy for the imprisoned gang leader to try and exert control over the street gang organization he founded. Why would they need a UN Human Rights representative and Reverend Sharpton. If we were making this a message about peace why can’t a cameraman and a reporter shoot the interview. Because it has nothing to do about the gang violence in Chicago, it’s about Larry Hoover.

The summit was not the first such meeting of its type.  A similar brainstorming event occurred 10 years ago, and those who remembered it were mixed about the outcome. IN 2001 a summit was held in June of 2001. That summit offered all kinds of hope, present was Jesse Jackson, Wallace “Gator” Bradley, Jesse Jackson Jr, Bobby Rush and Danny Davis, issues were discussed but little was ever instituted by those who were entrusted to solve the problems. A similar summit in 1993, in which Jesse Jackson, Nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan were present. It would seem that almost every 10 years a summit is held to stave off the realization that the elected officials at the local, state and federal level are doing little to nothing to solve the problems facing their constituents.

“The conversation that is created here will extend beyond here,” he said. Rush said he and the other members of Congress at the summit intend to follow up on the ideas offered.  We shall see Representative Rush, we will be watching and we will be posting about this.

diy tattoo kit uk | Making a Murderer Update 6 Suspicious Damage to Teresas Car

,

diy tattoo kit uk

I received this pic and theory from an expert in the field, who messaged with:

Where is this piece of Teresas Rav4? A wheel well cover is not small. Is it maybe in the quarry or right outside the salvage yard? You would not be able to see through the missing front left blinker (was found in the trunk) if the wheel well cover was still on Teresas car.

My theory is the car was towed onto the back of the Avery lot through the quarry with a tow strap. While being towed it bumped into the back of the vehicle towing it, smashing the front headlight, knocking out the blinker light and loosening the fasteners on the wheel well cover. Whoever is towing stops, picks up the blinker and throws it in the back and goes on their way. While towing Teresas car through the quarry (directly south of the Avery lot) the bumpy/hilly terrain wiggled the wheel well cover loose and it fell off.

I believe this wheel well cover could possibly still be on or around the quarry property directly south of Avery salvage.

This video shows how the wheel well is held on:

The plastic screws/clips break very easily in low speed front corner hits. I know from first hand experience how easy the wheel well cover can fall off. They break loose just a fastener or two and the weight of itself pulls it down into the tire, which then rips it off.

Pic below: Note the quarry sand and wheel well cover peeled back, suggesting a tow:

diy tattoo clip cord | So your a Dad How to be a good one!

,

diy tattoo clip cord

So know your a dad, getting there was relatively easy. But being a good dad, is incredibly difficult and takes work. That is the one thing that new parents do not always realize the time, effort and willpower that it takes. But even more important a new parent, particularly a father need to be in their childs life well beyond the baby and toddler stage into the pre-teen years.

So here are a few tips that fathers can follow that will make them truly great dads.

Part one making the time

Make time for your kids. Your children dont care if youve just had a big promotion at your company or whether or not you own the most expensive house on the block. What they do care abou
t is whether or not youll be home time for dinner, if youll take them to the baseball game, and if youll be around for movie or game night that week. If you want to be a good father, then you have to set aside time every day for your children -- or at least every week -- no matter how busy you are.

  • Plug this time into your schedule. Maybe your best nights for your children are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Take the time to put in extra care during those days, and dont let other commitments get in the way.
  • If you have more than one child, then you should make time to see each child individually, so your unique relationships can develop.
  • If youre so tired that you cant possibly make yourself get up to basketball with your son, do something else with him instead, like watching a basketball game or a basketball-themed movie. Its important that youre there in some capacity.

Be there for the milestones. Though planning "daddy time" for your kids each week is a great way to strengthen your relationship, you should also try to be there for important milestones in their lives. Arrange your work schedule so that you can be there for your sons first day of school, your daughters first ballet recital, or your son or daughters high school graduation.

  • Your children will remember these moments for the rest of their lives, and having you be there will mean a lot.
  • You may be very busy when one of your kids is about to hit a milestone, but if you miss out, youll regret it later on.

Teach your children the important lessons. You should also be present to teach your children how to complete the basics of life. You can help your son use the bathroom, teach your children to brush their teeth properly, help them learn how to ride a bike, and teach them to drive when the time comes. These rights of passage are incredibly important, for some these will help define your childs risk and protective factors.  You can also teach your sons how to shave and maintain good hygiene. Your kids will need you to learn the big life lessons as well as the small everyday tasks.
  • Split these lessons with your wife or significant other. You should both teach your children the important things they need to know to grow up.
  • Help your children learn from their mistakes. If theyve done something wrong, you should help them see why and talk about how to avoid the behavior in the future instead of simply punishing them and moving on.
Develop strong communication. Being present for the important moments in your childrens lives is very important, and so is being able to communicate with your children when youre there. You dont always have to do something exciting with your kids for them to enjoy hanging out with you -- you just have to focus on being able to communicate with them, to understand their concerns and struggles.
  • Make sure to check in with your kids every day, so that you know what their worried about, what they have coming in that week, and whats on their minds.
  • Dont just superficially ask, "How was your day?" without really wanting to know the answer.
  • If your children are teenagers or busy college students, then they may not want to discuss the details of their days with you. Just make sure to check in often enough that they know you care without feeling smothered.
Plan trips with your kids. To be a good father, you should take the time to go trips with your kids -- with or without their mother. You can take a yearly fishing trip with your boys, a trip to the beach with your daughter, or even a camping trip that your kids will never forget. Whatever you do, try to make it special, memorable, and something that can be repeated at least once a year so that youve developed a fun daddy-centric routine.
  • If the childrens mother is present during the trips, take some time to bond solo with your kids when you can.
  • Planning these trips a few months in advance will give your kids something fun and different to look forward to.
Make time for yourself. Though its important to be there for your kids, you should try to get some "me time" when you can, whether its spending Sunday afternoon doing your own thing, or taking half an hour to run every morning or winding down with a good book every night before bed. You should put your kids interests before your own most of the time, but dont completely neglect yourself, either.
  • If you dont make time for yourself, you wont be able to relax, recharge your batteries, and give your kids the time and attention they deserve.
  • You can have a special room or chair in the house where your kids know that you should not be disturbed. Help them get used to the idea of "me time" and explain that youre going to be doing your own thing for a little while -- unless they really need you.
Balance the Carrot and the Stick

Reward your children appropriately. Being a disciplinarian isnt all about punishing your children when theyve made a mistake. Its also about rewarding them when theyve done something good so that theyre encouraged and want to repeat the behavior. Whether theyve gotten straight As, helped a younger sibling with a tough task, or were mature enough to walk away from a fight, you should let them know how proud you are of them, take them out to their favorite restaurant, or just do whatever you can to let them know how much you appreciate their good behavior.
  • When your children are younger, rewarding them with affection can go a long way in helping them see how proud you are.
  • Though giving your children a treat or a new toy when theyve behaved well occasionally can reinforce good behavior, you shouldnt have toys or treats as the only incentive your children have for acting well. They should be motivated because youve taught them to separate right from wrong.
  • Dont reward your children for something that is expected of them, like doing chores around the house or cleaning up after themselves. If you do, then theyll feel like theyre doing you a favor.
Punish your children appropriately. To be a fair disciplinarian, youll have to punish your children when theyve made a mistake. This doesnt mean getting physical or psychologically cruel -- it just means letting your kids know when theyve made a mistake and showing that there are consequences for their actions. Once your child is old enough to reason, he should know when hes made a mistake.
  • Make sure that you and your wife agree on the punishment for the children. The consequences should be the same, whether Mommy or Daddy witnessed the action. This will help you avoid going into "good cop, bad cop" mode.
Be consistent. Being consistent is just as important as having a system of punishments and rewards. If your child is misbehaving, the consequences should be the same every time, even if its inconvenient or youre tired or out in public. And if your child does something great, dont forget to make him feel special, no matter how tired or stressed out you are.
  • If you dont act consistent, then your children will know that your reactions can be influenced by your moods.
Dont yell. Though you may feel enraged by your childrens behavior, yelling is not the solution. If you have to yell, try yelling when youre alone, in the shower, or into a pillow. But dont yell at your children, no matter how bad the urge is. You can raise your voice slightly to let them know theyve made a mistake, but if you yell or scream, theyll be afraid of you and wont want to communicate.
  • Though it may be tough, you shouldnt let your children see you lose control.
Dont get violent. No matter how angry you are, you should avoid hitting, hurting, or grabbing your children. This will hurt them physically and emotionally and will make them want to avoid you at all costs. If your children think that you may get violent, they will shut down and wont want to be around you. You should avoid being violent around your children, or around their mother, if you want to gain their respect.

Be feared and loved. Its important that your children know that youre a strict disciplinarian and that they cant pull a fast one on you, but its equally important that they want your love and affection and have an amazing time bonding with you. To be a good father, you need to toe the line between enforcing tough lessons and also making your children feel loved and appreciated.
  • If youre too concerned about being feared, then your children may not feel comfortable enough to open up to you.
  • If youre too concerned about being loved, then your children may see you as a pushover who wont lay down the law.
Being a Good Role Model

Lead by example. If you want to lead by your example, then your motto should be, "Do as I say and as I do," so your children know youre not being hypocritical when you teach them right from wrong. If you want your children to act in a way that meets your expectations, then they should see the positive behavior from you first. Here are some ways that you can lead by example:
  • If you dont want your children to smoke or drink excessively, for example, then you shouldnt do these things in front of them -- or at all.
  • If you want your children to treat people with kindness and respect, then they have to see you treating people, from the waiter in your local restaurant to a telemarketer, with basic respect.
  • If you want your children to not pick fights, then dont pick a fight with their mother right in front of them.
Treat the childrens mother with respect. If you want to be a good role model, then you have to treat the childrens mother with respect. If youre married to her, then you should let them see how much your love her, help her out, and enjoy her company. If youre mean to your own wife, then your children will see that its okay to be mean to Mom or other people because Dad does it.
  • Part of treating the childrens mother with respect means sharing childcare and household duties with her.
  • Let your children see you praising their mother and giving her the love and affection that she deserves.
  • You should not only treat the childrens mother with respect, but love her and work on maintaining an loving, fun, and nurturing relationship. If the childrens mother is happy, then everyone is happy.
  • If you and the childrens mother are divorced, then you should never say a bad word about their mother to them, even if youre not on the best terms. Letting them see your less-than-ideal relationship with their mother will make them stressed and confused.
Admit your mistakes. You dont have to be perfect to be a good role model. In fact, its better if youre not perfect, because then your children will see that nobodys perfect and that everybody makes mistakes. If youve made a mistake, like forgetting to pick your child up from school at the right time, or losing your temper, you should apologize and say that you know youve made a mistake.
  • If you can swallow your pride in front of your children, then theyll see that its okay for them to admit when theyve done something wrong, too.
  • Admitting when youre wrong builds more character than "doing the right thing" every single time.
Help out around the house. If you want your children to help out around the house, then you should help out around the house, too, no matter how all-consuming your job may be. Let them see you doing the dishes, cleaning the counters, and vacuuming the carpet, and theyll want to help out too. If they think that cleaning up is just "Moms job," then theyll be much less likely to help out when the time comes.
  • Helping out around the house will not only make your wife happy, but itll help your children see that you and your wife work as a team and that they should join in.
Earn your childrens respect. Respect is earned, not given, and you should do what you can so that your children respect you as a father. If youre not around a lot, yell at their mother, or are only occasionally in the mood to discipline them, then they wont respect you just because youre their father. You should act in a way that is admirable, honest, and consistent so that your children see that youre a model father and a person worthy of their admiration.
  • Your children shouldnt worship you and think youre perfect -- they should see that youre only human and want to do well by them.
Shower your children with love and affection. Though you may think being a good role model means being slightly distant but always doing the right thing, it actually means being connected enough to give your children kisses and hugs, and to let them know how much they mean to you. Dont let a day go by without saying "I love you," giving your children physical affection, and letting them know how much they mean to you.
  • Your children long for love and affection from you, no matter what age they are.
  • Praise your children and let them know that your life wouldnt be the same without them.
Accept that your children arent you. Though you may have wanted your children to keep running the family business, attend your alma mater, or be a high school soccer star like you were, you have to accept the fact that your children are their own people with their own needs and desires, and that they may not align with yours. You may think that your path is the only way to happiness, but to be a good father, you have to accept that your children may have a different idea of how to run their lives.
  • Though you may think that youre doing your best by telling your children what to do or how to live their lives, youre actually hurting their independence by trying to control them.
  • It takes time to accept your childrens desires. If you dont immediately understand why your son wants to be an artist when you are a doctor, ask for him to explain it to you and take the time to listen and understand.
  • If you try to control your children too much, theyll resent you and will stop opening up.
  • Let your children make their own decisions by letting them be independent and open-minded. You may want them to play baseball, but sign them up for a variety of activities and let them decide what they like best.
Be aware of the changing times. To be a good father, you have to understand that your children arent growing up in the same environment that you were raised in -- even if youre raising them in the same time. With globalization, the influence of social media, and the changing politics in todays society, its likely that your children are less sheltered than you are and are more aware of the problems and changes in todays society.
  • Therefore, be aware that things like body piercing, premarital sex, and world travel are more common today than they were in your time. Accept that your children are a product of the times and that they may want to explore the world more than you did.
  • You may feel like you know exactly how the world should work, but you should let your children express themselves and share their perspectives with you.
Being Understanding

Accept your childrens mistakes. If you want to be an understanding father, then you have to accept that, like you, your children arent perfect, and that theyre bound to make mistakes. Life is full of mistakes that help your children learn, and you should accept that many lessons are necessary -- whether your son gets into a minor car accident, fails a test because he didnt study, or dates the wrong woman when he should know better.
  • If you dont let your children fail once in a while, then they wont learn anything. Though you may want to shelter and protect them, letting them make their own mistakes will help them make more-informed decisions.
  • You should still discipline your children appropriately when they make a mistake, but you should also talk about what they did wrong and let them see the error of their ways instead of just yelling at them.
Understand if your children are struggling. If you want to be a good father, then you have to be aware of when your children are having a particularly hard time and be attentive to your needs. Maybe your little boy is struggling because you moved to a new town and he doesnt have any friends, or maybe your daughter is going through her first break-up and is emotionally wiped.
  • Though you cant completely excuse your childrens distant or emotional behavior, you should be aware of whats going through their heads so you can be more understanding and talk to them when theyre struggling.
  • Just saying, "I know youre having a hard time. Want to talk about it?" will help your children see how much you care.
  • Try putting yourself in your childs shoes. If youre frustrated, understanding where your child is coming from will help you understanding his behavior.
Dont place unreasonable expectations on your children. A childs life can be filled with pressures, from siblings to kids at school to teachers to coaches. Help your child understand their desires and assess their capabilities and limitations. Help them set achievable goals. Encourage them to meet their full potential but avoid living vicariously through them by expecting them to achieve what you had achieved or hoped to have achieved.

Realize that a fathers job is never done. Do not assume that once your children turn 21, or they have a college degree, that your work raising them is done. Although it is important to encourage your children to become financially and emotionally independent, it is also important to let them know that you care and are always there for them and that they are valued.
