diy tattoo gun electric toothbrush | Here is a Chief of Police of a small town that gets it about gangs!

,

diy tattoo gun electric toothbrush

Editors Note: Andrews Police Chief Joseph Cooper held a gang awareness seminar for residents earlier this week in his town.  Andrews is a small town in South Carolina with a population of 2,861 (2010 census) The town is approximately  2.2 square miles and sits between two counties.

Drawing on his experience and expertise, Andrews Police chief Joseph Cooper held a discussion about gang awareness with town residents during a gathering he hosted on Nov. 2.

"Its not so much the number of people that attend," he said. "Its how many people that get the message that were going to bring."

Cooper said the meeting was pretty much a learning experience as a lot of people dont know about gangs in the state of South Carolina.

"The prevention act, which does not prevent anyone from joining a gang, is in place to enforce heavier penalties on those who are gang members," he said, adding its not against the law to be in a gang in South Carolina.

According to Cooper, a street gang or youth gang is referred to as a group who takes over territories in a particular city or neighborhood.

"A lot of people dont believe in small towns, like this, there are gangs," he said. "Im not saying there are gangs actually coming through this town, or an influx of gangs, but there are different types of gangs and we are going to discuss that."

Cooper pointed out the police definition of a gang and pretty much how it is used in court.

"Its five or more individuals. Two or three people hanging out together is not a gang. The law says you need five or more," he said. "They put that in place because everyone has friends but when you get five or more we look at the criminal aspect of it."

A gang may range from a loose group of individuals who may hang around together to commit a crime, or they have gang colors, gang hand signals, initiation rights.

They also have an area or region they frequent all the time. All this is considered gang activity in the eyes of the law, Cooper explained. Reds, orange, gray, white, golden black, black and blue are different gang sets.

He also discussed what gang members do.
"They intimidate, of course. They see confrontation with other rival gang members, that does happen," he said. "They commit crimes against persons and property, and assault."

He also said they do a lot of drug trafficking and, "Andrews is an area that drugs come in from Myrtle Beach, Georgetown and Horry County."

"They are coming into this area, whether it is Andrews town limits or Williamsburg County, or surrounding areas and they are loading and dropping off money for drugs and they are keeping it moving up and down the corridor between Horry County, Georgetown, Williamsburg and Berkeley counties," Cooper said.
"Anytime you have a town that sits in an area close to an off ramp or a major thoroughfare highway, you are going to have that problem thats going to come in."

SLED is investigating and keeping documentation, Cooper said, and Andrews is very low as far as crime rates and murders. "That can change tomorrow, that can change tonight," he said. "All we need is for three or four crimes to happen tonight or this weekend and we went to another level, especially if we dont solve them." The rivalry between Georgetown and Andrews goes further than sports, he said, theres gang rivalry between the two.

"Im telling you this because I can tell you its true because not only did I investigate this stuff prior to coming here, but because I am also a part of the FBI Task Force of Criminal Intelligence and we talk about this stuff," he said. "We have a collaboration of a bunch of law intelligence agencies with the FBI, municipalities and the federal government."

Cooper told those attending that, "We havent had any gang activity in this town since Ive been here (about four months). For the most part, this town is safe. But like I said things could change at midnight tonight, you never know."

homemade tattoo machine and ink | Which Facial Treatments Really Work Part 1 Its All About The Hype

,

My wife complains that going for a facial is more stress than bliss nowadays. "Too many options and choices ... I don't know if I should go for a deep-clean cream cleanser or a blemish-relief clarifying one; would a diamond polishing be better than a ultrasonic exfoliation; and is a gold or propolis mask better for my skin?"

diy guitar tattoo | CDC Women Prescription Drug Deaths Soaring

,

diy guitar tattoo

Prescription drug abuse and misuse is killing women in record-breaking numbers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In a study conducted from 1999 to 2010, the CDC said that almost 48,000 American women died of prescription painkiller overdoses- 6,600 of that number- or 18 women a day- died in 2010.

“Our concern is that daughters, sisters, wives, and mothers are dying at overdose rates never seen before,” said Gail Hayes, a senior CDC Injury Center representative. “Women do so much to take care of their families and keep them healthy- but they also need to keep themselves healthy.”

According to Hayes, part of the issue arises from the fact that women are more likely than men to be prescribed painkillers by physicians—and they are being told to take these medicines at higher doses for longer periods of time.

Hayes also told the AFRO that every doctor needs to actively screen and monitor patients for possible
prescription painkiller abuse or misuse, and that “states can help by increasing access [to] substance abuse programs.”
Conversing in detail about medications already prescribed, medical history, and pregnancy plans is a must, too.
“Physicians need to talk with their patients about the risks and the benefits of taking prescription pain killers,” she said. “especially if they have a patient that is pregnant or thinking about having children.”

Hayes added that another issue coming into play is the fact that Americans hold on to drugs they no longer need for possible later use or, even worse, for sharing with family or friends.

According to Maryland Poison Control, 74 percent of calls about overdoses and poisonings in 2011 were drug related. Of that figure, cardiovascular prescriptions accounted for 5.2 percent of poisonings or overdoses, with antidepressants making up 5.9 percent. Antipsychotics, hypnotics, and sedatives made up 10.4 percent of all the calls in Maryland for that same year.

diy tattoo sheets | Young Fabulous Hair

,

diy tattoo sheets

Photo courtesy of flickr user Symic.

When trying to prevent aging, we often focus our attention on our skin, specifically the face. But why stop there? If your hair is changing as you age, the way you care for it should change, too. You can renew your hair by making even the smallest changes. Whether it is the products you are using or a change in your everyday styling routine, there is a way to keep your hair looking sleek, luscious and healthy.

Like the famous philosopher Sir Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power.” In order to prevent your hair from becoming dull, you should first understand how it ages.

Let’s get down to the science of the matter.
The average human being has around 100,000 strands of hair, although it can vary for each person. Each piece of hair is made up of protein, called keratin, which is surrounded by an outer layer of overlapping sheets forming the cuticle. The fastest-growing cells in the body grow within the only living part of a strand of hair, the hair follicle in the skin. Changes in biochemical or hormonal, microscopic or environmental factors can cause hair to age.

Five Tips for Younger Looking Hair

1. Watch your diet.
We are what we eat! There are certain foods that are full of good fats that can help you maintain a healthy scalp and head of hair. Partaking in a nutritious diet of salmon, walnuts, oysters or sweet potatoes will be the start of a new look. Below are other foods that are great for long locks.
Lean meats
Ensuring that you’re eating enough lean protein can help prevent hair loss. Lean protein can be found in foods like:
  • Ground sirloin
  • Eggs
  • Edamame
  • Pork chops
  • Chicken tenderloins

Dark green vegetables
Foods containing vitamins A and C and the mineral iron, such as spinach, broccoli and Swiss chard, can help prevent hair loss.

Low-fat dairy
Yogurt, cottage cheese and other low-fat dairy foods contain calcium, which encourages hair growth.

2. Take your vitamins.
Not every shampoo is the same, which is why we strongly suggest using shampoos, conditioners and hair masks containing vitamins A, B, C and E. Along with vitamins, nutrients such as calcium and magnesium in shampoo can help repair hair damage. Make sure to pay attention to the ingredients label to guarantee that the formula does not contain sulfates. These cleansers have been known to strip hair of its natural oils.
3. Be easy on wet hair.
No matter the color, length or texture of your hair, it’s most sensitive when it’s wet. I don’t think this next statement will be a problem for the “tenderheaded” people of the group, but be CAREFUL when brushing your hair right after a shower. Rather than a brush, consider using a wide-toothed comb to detangle your hair while still in the shower.

4. Put down the blowdryer.
Let me clarify this tip. I am not saying that you should never blow dry, straighten, curl or otherwise use heat on your hair again, but the temperature of the hot tool of choice could probably be dropped a bit. Try to prevent stubborn flyaways, frizziness and dryness by using an ionic (also known as negative ion) blow-dryer with 2,000 watts or more, or use a straightener with pure ceramic plates.

5. Release some pressure.
Have you ever gotten a headache from a ponytail holder that’s too tight? There is a reason for that. Loosen up your ponytail by using no-crease ponytail holders, stray away from tight braids and avoid products that make the hair stiff, such as extra hold hair sprays.

diy tattoo set | The Truth About Tanning

,

diy tattoo set

Summer is quickly approaching, and odds are you’re breaking out your swimsuits and shorts for the first time. The first thing most people notice when they break out their summer clothes is that their skin is much lighter than it was when they packed those same clothes away months earlier.

Unfortunately, many people turn to tanning beds or even their own backyards to get a “base tan” before they officially kick off their summer activities. But is a base tan legitimate? And are you better off going to a tanning bed, laying outside, getting a spray tan or doing nothing at all? Here’s The Skinny on tanning.

Tanning Beds
No matter what you’ve heard, there is no such thing as a “safe” tanning bed. The World Health Organization and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services both list tanning beds as a “known human carcinogen,” right up there with cigarettes.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology:
  • On an average day in the United States, more than 1 million people tan in tanning salons.
    • 35 percent of American adults, 59 percent of college students and 17 percent of teens have reported using a tanning bed in their lifetime.
  • Nearly 70 percent of tanning salon patrons are Caucasian girls and women, primarily aged 16 to 29 years.
  • Nearly 30 million people tan indoors in the United States annually. Of these, 2.3 million are teens.
    • In a 2014 study, 13 percent of American adults, 43 percent of college students and 10 percent of teens admitted to using a tanning bed in the past year.
  • In 2010, the indoor tanning industry’s revenue was estimated to be $2.6 billion.
  • Indoor tanning equipment - which includes all artificial light sources, including beds, lamps, bulbs, booths, etc. -- emits UVA and UVB radiation. The amount of the radiation produced during indoor tanning is similar to the sun, and in some cases might be stronger.
  • Studies have found a 59 percent increase in the risk of melanoma in those who have been exposed to UV radiation from indoor tanning, and the risk increases with each use.
  • A recent study estimates that exposure to indoor tanning devices causes more than 450,000 cases of non-melanoma skin cancer and 10,000 melanoma cases each year in the United States, Europe and Australia.
  • Studies have demonstrated that exposure to UV radiation during indoor tanning damages the DNA in the skin cells. Excessive exposure to UV radiation during indoor tanning can lead to premature skin aging, immune suppression and eye damage, including cataracts and ocular melanoma.
  • In a survey of adolescent tanning bed users, it was found that about 58 percent had burns due to frequent exposure to indoor tanning beds/lamps.
  • The FDA estimates that there are about 3,000 hospital emergency room cases a year due to indoor tanning bed and lamp exposure.
But what about Vitamin D?
Some people claim that indoor tanning can be beneficial in providing much-needed Vitamin D to the skin. While Vitamin D is important, indoor tanning beds should not be used to obtain vitamin D because UV radiation from indoor tanning is a risk factor for skin cancer. Vitamin D can be obtained by a eating a healthy diet and by taking oral supplements. Additionally, most people can get adequate amounts of Vitamin D just by walking outside for a few minutes per day.

Aren’t there some safe tanning beds that don’t emit UVA rays?
While some tanning beds do eliminate the UVA rays and only emit UVB, they are still dangerous. According to the FDA, UVB rays are most often associated with sunburns on the skin’s surface, while UVA rays can cause damage further below the surface. But exposure to any UV rays can cause skin cancer and damage to the skin.

Tanning Outside
I’ve heard claims that tanning outside is safer than tanning inside because it’s “natural.” That’s false. The danger in tanning at all is the UV rays. Tanning beds tend to work “faster” than just laying outside because they have a higher concentration of UV rays, but any contact with UV rays is damaging.

Every time your skin changes – whether it burns or tans – it’s a sign of damage. Too much sun exposure can cause skin cancer, but it can also cause signs of aging, like wrinkles. If you’re outside for any extended period of time, you should wear sunscreen of at least SPF 30 to protect yourself.

Spray Tanning
If you really want to add some color to your skin, spray tanning is the way to go. Spray tans contain a color additive called dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which temporarily darkens the skin. Spray tans typically last seven to 10 days, or until the skin naturally sloughs off.

There has been a question about the safety of DHA, as prolonged exposure to the chemical or ingestion through the nose or mouth can be harmful. Still, if the products are used as directed, they are not dangerous. People working with spray tans or getting one should ensure they protect their eyes, nose, mouth and mucous membranes.

Even with the minimal risk posed by DHA, spray tanning is by far the safest option to achieve that brown glow.

Doing Nothing At All
Love your skin the way it is! People who avoid tanning altogether and who faithfully wear sunscreen every day will age more gracefully than people who tan or don’t protect their skin.

Have any questions about tanning or recognizing damage? Make an appointment at ADSCA today.

diy tattoo care | Talking to your teen about drinking

,

diy tattoo care

Over the summer, many parents agonize on how to deal with teens and the potential for them to get involved with drugs and alcohol. As a parent it is important to breach those conversations with your teen to tell them how you feel and to be educated with the facts about alcohol and drugs.
For many parents, bringing up the subject of alcohol is no easy matter. Your young teen may try to dodge the discussion, and you yourself may feel unsure about how to proceed. To make the most of your conversation, take some time to think about the issues you want to discuss before you talk with your child. Consider too how your child might react and ways you might respond to your youngster’s questions and feelings. Then choose a time to talk when both you and your child have some “down time” and are feeling relaxed.
You don’t need to cover everything at once. In fact, you’re likely to have a greater impact on your child’s decisions about drinking by having a number of talks about alcohol use throughout his or her adolescence. Think of this talk with your child as the first part of an ongoing conversation.
And remember, do make it a conversation, not a lecture! You might begin by finding out what your child thinks about alcohol and drinking.
Your Child’s Views About Alcohol. Ask your young teen what he or she knows about alcohol and what he or she thinks about teen drinking. Ask your child why he or she thinks kids drink. Listen carefully without interrupting. Not only will this approach help your child to feel heard and respected, but it can serve as a natural “lead-in” to discussing alcohol topics.
Important Facts About Alcohol. Although many kids believe that they already know everything about alcohol, myths and misinformation abound. Here are some important facts to share:
  • Alcohol is a powerful drug that slows down the body and mind. It impairs coordination; slows reaction time; and impairs vision, clear thinking, and judgment.
  • Beer and wine are not “safer” than hard liquor. A 12-ounce can of beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine, and 1.5 ounces of hard liquor all contain the same amount of alcohol and have the same effects on the body and mind.
  • On average, it takes 2 to 3 hours for a single drink to leave a person’s system. Nothing can speed up this process, including drinking coffee, taking a cold shower, or “walking it off.”
  • People tend to be very bad at judging how seriously alcohol has affected them. That means many individuals who drive after drinking think they can control a car—but actually cannot.
  • Anyone can develop a serious alcohol problem, including a teenager.
Good Reasons Not to Drink. In talking with your child about reasons to avoid alcohol, stay away from scare tactics. Most young teens are aware that many people drink without problems, so it is important to discuss the consequences of alcohol use without overstating the case. Some good reasons whyteens should not drink:
  • You want your child to avoid alcohol. Clearly state your own expectations about your child’s drinking. Your values and attitudes count with your child, even though he or she may not always show it.
  • To maintain self-respect. Teens say the best way to persuade them to avoid alcohol is to appeal to their self-respect—let them know that they are too smart and have too much going for them to need the crutch of alcohol. Teens also are likely to pay attention to examples of how alcohol might lead to embarrassing situations or events—things that might damage their self-respect or alter important relationships.
  • Drinking is illegal. Because alcohol use under the age of 21 is illegal, getting caught may mean trouble with the authorities. Even if getting caught doesn’t lead to police action, the parents of your child’s friends may no longer permit them to associate with your child.
  • Drinking can be dangerous. One of the leading causes of teen deaths is motor vehicle crashes involving alcohol. Drinking also makes a young person more vulnerable to sexual assault and unprotected sex. And while your teen may believe he or she wouldn’t engage in hazardous activities after drinking, point out that because alcohol impairs judgment, a drinker is very likely to think such activities won’t be dangerous.
  • You have a family history of alcoholism. If one or more members of your family has suffered from alcoholism, your child may be somewhat more vulnerable to developing a drinking problem.
  • Alcohol affects young people differently than adults. Drinking while the brain is still maturing may lead to long-lasting intellectual effects and may even increase the likelihood of developing alcohol dependence later in life.
The “Magic Potion” Myth. The media’s glamorous portrayal of alcohol encourages many teens to believe that drinking will make them “cool,” popular, attractive, and happy. Research shows that teens who expect such positive effects are more likely to drink at early ages. However, you can help to combat these dangerous myths by watching TV shows and movies with your child and discussing how alcohol is portrayed in them. For example, television advertisements for beer often show young people having an uproariously good time, as though drinking always puts people in a terrific mood. Watching such a commercial with your child can be an opportunity to discuss the many ways that alcohol can affect people—in some cases bringing on feelings of sadness or anger rather than carefree high spirits.
How to Handle Peer Pressure. It’s not enough to tell your young teen that he or she should avoid alcohol—you also need to help your child figure out how. What can your daughter say when she goes to a party and a friend offers her a beer? (See “Help Your Child Say No.”) Or what should your son do if he finds himself in a home where kids are passing around a bottle of wine and parents are nowhere in sight? What should their response be if they are offered a ride home with an older friend who has been drinking?
Brainstorm with your teen for ways that he or she might handle these and other difficult situations, and make clear how you are willing to support your child. An example: “If you find yourself at a home where kids are drinking, call me and I’ll pick you up—and there will be no scolding or punishment.” The more prepared your child is, the better able he or she will be to handle high-pressure situations that involve drinking.
